Hey all, thought I'd start a thread here because of the wealth of info available from members in case I have any questions, and also to just share my experiences with the car. I like reading threads like this from other members while I wait for my car, so I thought I'd contribute and add another thread for anyone in my shoes down the line :)

This is my first Ferrari, but it wasn't supposed to be - I had an order in for a 296GTS and was sort of expecting that to be the first F-car in my life, but I guess the world has a funny way of making the unexpected happen. I've lusted after the Pista for quite a few years now. Funnily, when it first came out - I hate the entire concept of it, a firm believer in the whole NA thing I felt the Speciale was THE mid-engined V8 special. Over a bit of time, it sort of turned around. The Pista is a painfully beautiful car. But on top of that, from most I speak with, it seems to be the more competent driving car - and the Speciale is rawer and more emotive. More, being the key word. I already had a relatively emotional and wild NA drive in the garage (not raw - but still), so I was looking more for competence for a bit of track work and hard driving. Enter Pista.

Long story short, madness took hold over the course of a couple of months as I convinced myself into a Pista over the 296 GTS. The allure of getting a car NOW as opposed to 2025 certainly helped. One day, pushed over the edge, I walked into the dealer, cancelled the 296GTS order, and offered to buy a Pista off them. They didn't have any in stock, but I'd already seen one on the market I request they buy-in for me. Thankfully, the car on market was at another dealer that my guys had a great relationship with. So, a quick phone call to that dealer principal - some back and forth on the price, and 15 minutes later I'd bought a Pista.

I pick the car up next Thursday. I'm beyond excited - despite knowing I paid a little over the market average for a bit of a unique spec. In my opinion, after buying other supercars, I know for a fact I regret not just spending the extra money buying the car I want, as opposed to the "sensible" car.

Rosso Coburn, with a bit of a different stripe config - and a lovely stripe-matched interior. Pelle Bianca and Nero interior. Carbon wheels, and all the normal bits like lift etc spec'd. Honorable mention for gloss carbon on the interior, which I much prefer to the matte.

So far, I've ordered some OEM rims in Silver, I tend to use the car a lot and I'm not interested in replacing each rim at circa £8k - and some PS4Ss in N0 have also been ordered to wrap them in as I live in the UK and it's generally cold and wet here. Cup 2s won't be great for regular use.

Other than that, I have around 5000mi of driving planned between now and June, with 2 trips up to Spain and Portugal for some mountain road driving, and watching the Barcelona GP. The car will probably crack 8000-9000mi by the end of the year, if not more. I'm also planning a little expedition out to Milbrook proving grounds to get used to the dynamics of the car next month!

Anyway, thanks for humoring me, I'll keep the thread updated as I take delivery of the car next week. It should be on a truck to me tomorrow before PDI and whatnot!

I can relate to your journey…back in late 2019 I passed on a Speciale and was waitlisted for an F8. Pandemic came and was advised I would have to wait an additional year for the F8….bought a pristine Pista and canceled the F8. There are many options to increase the whine sound in the Pista. Here in the States from an investment perspective the Speciale might be a better choice. But it is somewhat dated compared to the Pista. I lived in Portugal for 3 years….you will love the winding valleys and slopes. Enjoy.

  5. Congrats.

You can and will be able to get a 296 later if the Pista doesn't scratch all of your itches.

Many thanks all, no idea how you all wait a year or two for your car to arrive, this week is going to be agony!

I've driven the 296 a fair bit now, it was a very impressive car for sure. But I did find myself wanted a bit more of a raw experience, so I'm hoping the Pista ticks the box. Never driven one or even been in one - so collection day is gonna be my first go in one. Will be taking it quite easy though!

Oh my goodness what a beautiful spec and I LOVE that you intend to USE it. Huge congrats.

Also IMO the right decision taking this over a 296 it’s 1000x more beautiful.

My local dealer has/had a couple of used 296's. They tried to sell one of them to me. Just not my jam. Owning a Pista as your 1st Ferrari?! You made the right choice. The Pista simply has more "presence" than the 296 which frankly I didn't like, it's not iconic like the Pista. The 296 design to me just seems confused. The Pista still has it's roots in Pininfarina. It's not as special as a Speciale to me, but it's a solid choice. Congrats!

congrats! you are going to love it. I am on my second Pista and i plan on dying with it. i love that red. much more interesting than the common reds, and those seats are absolute perfection blending in with the white stripe outside. i too overpaid for a unique spec i was lusting after. all good, you cant make more time, and they are making more Pistas, but you can always make more money. congrats again, enjoy in good health.

Wow, thank you all so much for the warm welcome! Really looking forward to collecting the car - I have now booked a session at Milbrook proving grounds in early Feburary to get familiar with what the car feels like when sideways and pushing on.

I will try to stick a go-pro somewhere to record the antics. They have a skid-pan and lots of open room so I get to mess around a little, along with a dynamics test track which I'll be taking the car around.

April, I will be throwing the car on a ferry, crossing the Bay of Biscay and disembarking in Santander, to then do 1900 miles across Spain, dipping into Portugal to drive the Serra del Estrela mountain range. You can get an idea of what that will be like here:

June, back - this time crossing Spain from north to south to do the Barcelona GP.

Insanely excited does not begin to cover it, I am very glad to be able to do this - first buying the car, but second - using it as intended!

I will try to cover all this in as much detail with photos and a small write up etc here if folks are interested in reading.

    Stunning looking car !
I did the same and removed the carbon wheels as they wouldn’t last very long on the roads in london. Looks like you picked yours up from Meridien ?

Yep, the car was at Meridien, got Carrs to buy it in for me - so she's gonna be on a truck over on Monday and then delivered on Thursday.

Agreed re our terrible roads here! They'll have to do as nice wall art for the moment :D

The Pista is an all-time car. Absolutely beautiful work my man.

I agree with everyone else in this thread that I think you made the correct decision. Not that I think you will, but if for some reason you end up hating it, you can still drive it for a year and trade it in 2025 for a 296. No reason to sit on the sidelines all of 2024 without a beast!
