Do any of you own or know someone with a "high mileage" Speciale?

I bought mine in 2018 with 5k miles. Currently has 17k miles and feel like I've barely driven it!

I've enjoyed the car on many adventures and road trips, and would like to use it even more. But so much chatter about miles (understandably if you're planning to sell) and it's hard to get the bug out of your ear! I theoretically shouldn't be concerned about resale as I bought it with the intention of it being a lifetime car, but it can be hard to ignore, and they've gone up so much in value.

I'd be interested to hear of anyone else piling some miles on their Speciale for inspiration! I was inspired by the gentleman who drove his Enzo cross-country to car week last summer!

I have about 15k miles on mine and plan on putting at least 2 a year as long as I have the car. The decrease in value is real, but I don't count on my car to make me money so I'm not broken up about it. As the cars age, inevitably the mileage on the average specimen will also increase as many people do use them as intended.

Also, I'm in Europe and European Speciales for sale have an average of about 13-20k miles on them so I'm right in the mix. In the US its quite a bit different as I see a ton of sub 5k cars available and the price difference to a more loved car is significant.

I had the same goal of having a high mileage Speciale that I keep forever. I put 4k miles on it the first year. However, as it appreciated, I couldn't mentally handle driving a half million dollar car all the time. I couldn't handle my kids friends rubbing their hands, backpacks and everything else on the car as they went through the garage. I couldn't handle that Texas drivers generally only have $30k in insurance, so a fender bender in a Speciale in Texas is a $100k loss of value. It was all good as a $350k car, but something weird in my mind couldn't park a half million dollar car at an Austin Tacodeli parking lot (tight) without paranoia.

I know it is all in my head. I have the money. But I couldn't use the car as a daily driver and I just became obsessed with keeping it immaculate. It became a point A to point A car, which I find lame.

For now, the $500k is in TBills, earning $27k a year in interest while I wait on a good company to go on sale. If I miss it too much, I'll buy another Speciale. If I do it again, I think I'll try and find a wrecked one, a high mileage one, or at least one that already has rock chips.

Still, no other Ferrari speaks to me like the Speciale does. I won't own a better driver's car.

Better to have loved and lost than never loved at all.

Perhaps if a person could swing it they have the Speciale for their collection and then a higher mileage Italia or Spider for the trips, C&Cs and other activities?

Thanks for the thoughts on this... Yeah, it seems like most here in the US for sale are in the 5-7k miles range... that's interesting...

Appreciate your sharing this... I realized a similar value appreciation, and have had similar thoughts. A 350k car is always a thing of great value, but somehow at the 500k level the stress goes up parking it in hotel parking lots overnights, or doing a long road trip with a lot of freeway miles.

I couldn't agree more about a point A to point A car not making a lot of sense for how I like to enjoy cars. I had considered an F40 years ago before they went up a lot in value, but realized it's such an iconic car that attracts so much attention that I'd never be comfortable parking it overnight in "normal" places on weekend getaways and road trips, and therefore wouldn't drive it enough to get the value out of it...

I have 85k miles on my Lotus Elise, over 90 track days, and love that car to bits. I think partly from the relationship that comes with using it and not worrying about it. Many long road trips to tracks, weekend getaways, camping with my kids for many years... It's the car I grab the keys for more than any else I've owned. I aspire to get to that point with the Speciale.

I'm waiting for that person with a 50k+ mile Speciale to chime in and maybe break the seal in my mind--so far I don't think I've seen one over 20k miles! Which is notable to me for cars that are 10 years old now.

I have a friend who put 26k miles on his Speciale. 100% problem-free except for having to fix EPB issue.

So I bought my 2012 Italia with 12.5K on the clock in March of '23. I now have 17.7K.
I drive the car regularly and plan on continuing. It's my dream car and its not going to sit in garage or be saved for the next guy!
Cars like these deserved to be driven!
