    Morning,

Pulling the switch on the dash doesn't open it anymore !
The switch seems ok, but i have not tested it on another switch before i put the car away - DOH !!
The wire pull release works fine.

i have removed the mechanism in the boot and it is a BMW part.

Has anybody had the mechanism fail before ?

    thanks

Hi Graham, I had exact same problem a few years back

For me it was the cable running alongside the boot hinge failing - I think they can get twisted or pinched over time.

easy enough to swap dash switch to check that’s OK and if you can get power to the release mechanism you can check that too

I see the fuse is not listed in the workshop manual. Are your dome lights working (fuse 21)? Is your clock working (fuse 24)? Is your fuel cap lid release working (fuse 4)?

These fuses may be associated with the boot/trunk release.

Had the same issue last year. Turned out to be a burned fuse.

I pulled the dash switch and used contact cleaner. Works perfectly now

Right, Eric. As our cars age, we must rely on this more and more...
