I had the front wheels off this past weekend and noticed the steering boot on the driver’s side hat a small tear in it, and some buildup of oil coming from the steering rack. I can only assume that some dirt or solids got into the torn boot and worked into the steering rack seals. Has anyone done this repair DIY or taken to the dealer? Looks like the whole rack will need replaced.
It’s not leaking bad yet, but my experience with this issue before in other vehicles tells me it will continue to get worse.

The rack in my car started to leak earlier this year, I had it rebuilt by a shop that rebuilds racks for other high end cars. It's a TRW rack so nothing out of the ordinary. The guys who did the job told me 458 rack is very similar to Bentley Continental. I think I paid around $2k for parts and labour, took them 2-3 days all up

The steering rack won’t be nothing special and as F-Serge said the run of the mill TRW so if it does end up leaking should be repairable

Should be easy enough to replace the boot covers and if you measure it will be able to get a good quality universal ones even

Notice Eurospares sell an approved part one which I assume will something similar to above

    All the best

I still haven’t fixed mine yet. But have been keeping a close eye on it because it did leak a little bit of fluid, I cleaned it when I first noticed it and the oil buildup hasn’t came back.

I really like the idea of the rebuild and will definitely opt to go that route. My questions to you that did the rebuild:
Did you pull the rack out of the car yourself? If so, how did you access it - it seems like you can pull the frunk out and come in from the top? Or did they just rebuild it on the car?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

    Best,
    Eric
