Both Steiner and Komatsu have engineering background, AFAIK.
Steiner has shown what he can and cannot do; Gene Haas probably believes he has to try someone else.
It's not only money; it's the way it's spent, and in which area, that's important.
In my opinion, what small teams like Haas suffer from, is mostly lack of aero facilities compared to the big players.

And now this interview comes out lol.

Gene Haas demands results: "There's no reason why we are 10th" (formu1a.uno)

The most expensive item is aero and Gene refuses to spend. Time to sell lol :)

    Very sad if true.

Sensing a nice very locked NDA was signed just prior to Steiner leaving. I suspect Gene will want very little opposing press on all of this.

Is Haas still under investigation for illegally transferring technology to Russia? Wasn’t he convicted (or pled guilty) of tax fraud? Maybe he has too many distractions to be an effective owner.

This sounds like low hanging fruit for Andretti. We’ll see what lame objections the other teams raise when they can’t complain about an additional team anymore….

    what about an Hass/Andretti partnership?
Andretti just buys 49% of team. eventually buys it all.
    easy peasy.

the tax fraud thing was 15 years ago. did some jail time IIRC

I haven't seen a resolution to the Russian sanction fiasco

Haas' NASCAR team has underperformed for years as well, other than Harvick who just retired

If I were F1/FIA I'd be actively recruiting buyers for Haas F1 (assuming Andretti isn't already down that road)

I don’t think anybody wants to be Haas’s minority partner unless there are airtight protections. Even then….

I’m sure he’s heavily scrutinized by IRS annually. Once you’re tagged it’s like a bad skin condition….it never really goes away.

Haas is totally clueless about what it will cost him to compete in F1, just as he is clueless about the real value of his team. Everyday he hangs onto it, it is worth less. If it is struggling to even get on the grid when the season starts, it will be worth even less again. In the end, it may not even be worth the 200 million Andretti offered.

Haas F1 is so far to the back of the pack that they could cheat in everyway possible, and they still be at the back...and no one would even care. I feel sorry for Hulkenberg and Maggnusen. They are doing everything in their power to score even 1 point, but the car is so slow that no one can seriously judge their driving skills. The FIA should give Gene Haas an ultimatume...either spend up to the budget cap and show he deserves to be in F1, or sell the team to someone who will.

Kinda sad. We have a ton of HAAS stuff in our shop. They are a great company to work with on that end. Either commit to what it takes or go away.

"We have a great team, we have great engines, we have really great drivers. There's no reason why we are 10th. I can't understand how we can be with all the equipment and people we have."

Either Gunther was blaming the equipment for bad performance as a scape goat or Gene Haas is completely delusional. I'm betting it's the latter.

Money owner blames employee because of ego. Haas needs to really stop talking. The physical reality of the team is counter to his garbage reasoning. Unless he will invest or raise money as other teams are doing, there is no reason to expect MAJOR improvement.

Ginther seems like every employees nightmare.

Yet well liked by a majority. He was fighting a 'no win' situation in the team given Haas under funding it, not upgrading the factory etc. GIven that -- how many 'top' employee's would leave a better funded team for his? The money is the problem. Considering what resources are on hand its impressive that they have scored points.

    his entire career is "meh":

Jaguar/RB F1-mediocre until he left (and Newey comes in)

Opel DTM- Opel withdraws from series

Red Bull NASCAR- poor results until the end, RB pulls funding

Haas- 10 poor seasons, one mediocre season

all the while Steiner makes himself a celebrity

I don't discount that Gene is unrealistic, and won't spend the necessary money, but you do have to assume Gunther is a significant part of the problem.

Yes money is the problem. Haas had 2 lousy sponsors that let him down over the years.
Rich Energy and Uralkali never deliver what they promised and Gene Haas had to pay the bills himself.
That's when they ran on a low budget and couldn't invest on new equipment, I guess.
Now frustration and acrimony set in; Haas is becoming a basket case. Difficult to attract sponsors in that situation.
