With the older Ferraris, I used to switch the key to the on position and wait for all the beeps and lights to stop before actually starting the car. By doing this, I avoided errant error codes, and unnecessary panic.
With the 488, I am continuing this habit by pressing the button without the brake pedal, then after the beeping stops, I press the button again while pressing the brake to start it.
Is this overkill, or can I just jump in and press the brake and start the car, like any other car?
What are you guys doing? Do you ever get any error lights with your method? (thankfully, I haven't gotten any error lights with my method so far)

  2. Unlock car.
    Open door.
    Get in car.
    Close door.
    Foot on brake.
    Push start button.
    Pull right paddle (or R)
    Foot on throttle
    Go!

That's not actually a bad idea in my mind. A lot of the European cars seem to have little sensor gremlins in them and have had them as long as I've owned them, going on nearly 40 years. But I don't have a 488 so I can't explicitly speak to it, but I do this on my RSQ8. I've learned to ignore most sensors on European cars unless it actually affects how the car drives. Ferrari's though, I treat differently because they're sensors go above and beyond. For instance, if you have a broken latch in the 360 rear bonnet, the car will go into limp mode. So stupid in my opinion. My 458 has a TMPS sensor constantly on. I ignore it completely. Let me give you an example on the RSQ8. I own multiple homes. One of them is at an elevation of only 4000'. I cannot let the car idle, then put it in RS mode, gun the car for several miles, get to a lower elevation without the car going into limp mode. The manual actually states NOT to let the car idle or this could happen. The ECU is so sensitive and slow, it cannot compensate for the change in oxygen air mixture on the fly if the car is started, allowed to idle first and then you descend a mountain. How stupid is that?

Just foot on the brake and engine start/stop button.
I was doing the whole wait until all the lights turn on and off but figured it doesn’t matter on the 488.

Well...First I crouch down in the shower in the classic "naked terminator traveling through time" pose. With my eyes closed I crouch there for a minute, visualizing either Arnold or the guy from the second movie (not the chick in the third one because that one sucked) and I start to hum the terminator theme. Then I slowly rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me to proceed through my day as an emotionless, cyborg badass. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It ruins the fantasy.

I don’t think its overkill I do this too- wait for all the lights to go out including the CEL light- only then do I turn off the start/ stop/ go to M mode etc. Of course Im conditioned from earlier cars- people say you don’t have to do it anymore-but Im from the older school.

2.5 years and 5500 miles on my F8 and I almost always just get in and start it. No issues so far.

    I'll go:
    • Press start button
    • Slide seat forward
    • Put on seat belt
    • Once lights and beeps stop, foot on brake pedal and start the engine
    • Turn off auto
    • Turn off radio
    • Turn off auto stop/start
    • Turn on bumpy road
    • Wait for the engine to settle to idle
    • Pull right paddle
    • Go
I wish it would remember my preferences for the bold items. Oh well.
