What is the spark plug change interval for the 488 in regard to time (doubt many hit the mileage)?

I was told it was 8 years which I find odd as this would fall outside the 7 years of service included with these cars.?

Does anyone have any idea of pricing from a dealer vs independent mechanic?

I changed the plugs on my 430 after 13 years and 15 k miles, total waste of time as like new with correct gap. Took less than an hour once i had modified the plug extension bar length so i could get the torque wrench in.
Assuming you can see then you should be able to do yourself.

I like that you are hands on, good job. Question I have, being a new Speciale owner is, with the engine being aluminum and the dissimilar metal of the spark plugs, did that in any way show any issues when you pulled the plugs out? These shops scare you to think that the spark plug is going to meld in with the aluminum over time and that you might not be able to get the plugs out? I never bought that but your thoughts are important. Thanks.

Yes, this is what prompted my question. Porche wants you to change plugs every 4 years

I think Ferrari is every 5 years? You just wonder if that is self serving by Ferrari although they have to deal with all driving situations out there where some will beat the heck out of the car and others do not. I liked the fact that he said he had his replaced in about an hour which says there weren't any issues but I want to know if he got a sense that there might have been some starting to show. Prior to the purchase of my Speciale last year, the dealer did in fact change the plugs at their expense at around the 6th year. They do not divulge that information unless you really dig for it with the service writer which was how I learned when I brought mine in for its 7th annual checkup.

Ferrari Service told me every 8 and I found that odd and hence the post.

Mine came out by hand after the initial use of a ratchet, plug threads clean as a whistle. The plugs come with a coating on the threads from NGK, so dont start using copper grease etc.
The old air cooled motorbike engines used to suffer from plugs seizing in the alloy heads if left in too long but they got very hot anyway. I was kicking myself after changing them, had i known how good they were i would have put them back. You can always get them inspected and refitted if ok. My old ones were like new

I changed the plugs on my F430 too. Incredibly easy job. Mine looked good too, but I've seen in past experiences that's not always the case. Microscopic cracks in the insulator can cause a lot of head scratching.

I'll eventually change the plugs on my 488 since I have a tune on it.

I used to race rotaries. I broke off so many spark plugs off in the housing, it's not even funny.

I did the plugs on my F430 spider twice. It’s awkward but not that hard with the correct wrench and socket. Plugs were £70/$100.
Dealer just quoted me £650 for my 488 and 2 hours labour. They said part of year 8 service which is self funded. The plugs are difficult to see and so I guess a lot of stuff needs to be removed to get access. Anyone got a video of the job?

If you can see the full length of the rocker box then you can do them from the top, the 430 was easy

Has anyone done a DIY video for the 488 GTB? Looks like a lot of work.
