Ridiculous, even though it is a very rare color, it would have been cheaper to go with Viola Hongkong.

I have to admit that Ferrari does have "cheap" extra, like contrast stitchings or the horse in the seat, also different leathers combined. BUT the color issue is so incredible, that I cannot understand it. If they want people to choose more than Rosso Corsa, why do they raise prices that much ? Why not raising the base price about 10-20 K, then colors would be as expensive as with other brands but even more important, nobody would care. I have to repeat what I said before, with Aston Martin, McLaren or minor brands like Porsche/Audi these color prizes are insane.

Where do you come from ? In Germany where I live Vinaccia was 10.000€, Viola Hongkong 24.000€. So a bit of a difference.

Vinaccia is great but it was never standard. It always had extra cost.

Correct. Vinaccia was previousy a PNCC Classic colour. I believe Ferrari switched all the PNCC colours into more expensive groups last summer as I was also caught out with Celeste which went from being a PNCC range colour at £7104 here, to being a PNT1 2 layers upon request Special Colour with a price tag of £20,030.

they raise prices because people have no problem adding just a bit more to their second mortgage to get those colors.

Didn't know they changed Celeste, too. Wow. Can't stop beeing paralysed by this behaviour.
The other day someone told me that he does not understand these complaints about Ferrari, what are another 25 K ?
I think, that it doesn't matter if you can affort a Ferrari once a life or once a month. Everything is explainable, especially technical aspects of any small extra you spec. BUT colors are not rationable explainable to go from 7K to 20k WHILE YOU WAINT AND HAVE TO PAY. Thats just uppish and disrespectful towards the customer. Anybody who can affort a supercar like this has made in life. Some more than others but still I do appreciate every single Euro I can spend for things like a car or watch. Combining the price changes as you wait 2 years+, I am astonished that you do not find more complaints.

Edit - I rechecked and Celeste and Vinaccia were PNTC 2 layer Special colours before being moved into the more expensive PNT1 group. PNTC was £8,218 here.

Ferrari marketing realised that paint was a relatively low hanging fruit in terms of increasing margin per car as customers are increasingly trying to make their cars more individual and paint colour choice is one of the single biggest ways of doing this.

Did you end up paying the far higher price for Celeste on your car?

Color was important to me, so I just removed other options that weren’t as important to me to hit my $500,000 budget. I still could remove another $50,000 of stuff, but to have a unique car was important to me and not another red/tan or black. I plan on keeping it.

My point is not: Do not buy expensive paint jobs. Not at all !! But I can tell you, what my actual thought is: Either I go for something that is free of charge (like Rosso Corsa or Nero) and will probably stay free of charge or I go for something metallic/mica, but then no matter what the sales-guy tells me how much it costs, I just add 25 K to my imaginary bill to prevent to get shocked when e.g. Grigio Titanio goes from 10k to 25k.

The other day I saw a youtube video from Ferrari Düsseldorf, they drove a Roma Coupe in grigio medio. They said: Well , beautiful color and now Ferrari has put it in another price group, that made it rare and worthy....?

I would say: They f...ed you.

My bigger issue is that we have to pay more for subpar quality paint. AM, Bentley, Rolls Royce etc. all overcharge for paint, but at the very least they deliver.

I've only ever gone for standard paint options on new cars but buying used I've been swayed towards cars with expensive paint - it's appealing that someone else takes the hit for you!

That is exactly the downside of expensive paints. You buy them for a lot of money and when you sell your car, there won't be a big difference between the exact specced car with just different colors. As long as we are talking about standard Ferrari models. An Enzo will be more expensive in black than in red....

Like here in this thread, people want to keep the car and therefor buy unique cars; after a while they might resell their car and find out that there are colors that not only have no return on your color invest but will lower the base price of the car, too.

People, who do not care about 25 or 50k for a color might not be the usual used car buyers...

    You are totally right.

I have asked this question elsewhere, but did not receive an answer. Do you think, that a 296 will have worse paint quality when it is painted by a robot or by hand ? Because I still consider buying the airbrushed shields and these car will always be handpainted. Any experiences on this topic ?

    Very
very simple answer-it’s a lottery so hope for the best but plan for a good detailer to paint correct.

I've only owned 4 over the years, and 2 arrived with excellent paint, but 2 looked like they were painted on "bring your kids to work day" and allow them to do your job.

Not sure that really translates to a 50% chance of getting a bad paint job, but at these prices this shouldn't even be a discussion.

I had two Tailor Made cars that needed to get touchups done. The dealer wouldn't sign off on how they looked, and found this issues.

Right I'm not sure where the assumption or assertion was given that if you order painted shields they'd hand painted but that hasn't been the case for a long time. And certainly specifying painted shields wouldn't mean your car gets completed hand painted or indeed any more attention at all.
