I had an encounter with that car in a highly unexpected place…..a stone barn on a farm in West Sussex. I think it was on its way to Australia if I’m not mistaken,
At the time 1183 GT and 2335 GT were both owned by Bamford and repainted gunmetal grey with two darkred stripes. SWB 2335 GT sold March 2004 from the Japanese owner via Adrian Hamilton to Bruce G. in Sydney, AUS. Last known owner is in Ireland. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login
We stay on a farm when we go to Goodwood. 2335 GT was being stored in an ancient stone barn on the property, apparently awaiting transport to Australia. Pigs, sheep, chickens and dogs were wandering around as usual…. Somewhere in my astonishingly disorganized photo file is a picture of it.

Well-chronicled by Fchatter 'Krasnavian'/Steven Mitchell (RIP)- At the time owned by actor Peter Helm and done as a prank. I believe the paint job was watercolor(s) over the existing rosso scheme. Several images of this on Mulholland Drive and elsewhere in Krasnavian's youtube channel videos. Perhaps there's a better image on there that can be screencaoped. channel is 'GTO3987' on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/@GTO3987/search?query=gto
Yes, 3987GT. Steven bought it when he was 19 back in the late 1960s. One of the things he mentioned over the years in posts here was lamenting the fact that when Ralph Lauren became the owner (bought from Don Walker when Stan Nowak was assembling RL's collection), Ralph removed the roof lights from Le Mans that were on the car when Mitchell had it.
He sold it for $5000 to Alain de Cadenet. I got the impression that letting the car go caused him a lot of pain throughout his life.
Yes, he claimed it got stolen from his mother. See what Alain himself said how he bought and lost 3987 here. Alain also sold 250 GTO 3767 to Anthony Bamford for £3000 around 1974. He wanted £3500 but Bamford chipped him £500 as it had a few dents in it.
Don Walker was a real estate developer in TX and made a big showing in '84 at Monterey. That was the first feature year for Ferrari at Laguna Seca (followed by a repeat in '94). Walker brought a number of cars including 3987. The next year, according to what I was told years ago, DW had a business reversal of fortune and had to liquidate the collection- 3987GT and 0398TF to RL, 5897GT to Steiger, and other cars scattered to the four winds. Point being it may be that Mr. Walker could share the sentiment others had had when it came time for 3987 to find its next home.
Chassis number suffix of 0398 is AM (0398 AM), not TF. 250 LM 5897 was sold by Walker to Joe Marchetti's International Autos Ltd., in Chicago, not directly to Stieger (not Steiger). Donald R. Walker also had 250 GT SWB Berlinetta chassis #2035 GT (which the factory on 9 July 2015 has admitted that 2035 GT was actually born as 2021 GT and was re-stamped by the factory). Stanley Nowak brokered this SWB in June 1986 to RL. Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login
Speaking of Joe Marchetti and his fabulous outfit International Auto Ltd. at 825 W Erie in Chicago, here are two pix, taken in 1980 and then in 2019. Galleria Marchetti is now in the very same building. Joe Marchetti was a wonderful man, very Italian, a true and charming dealer but very successful, he also ran the legendary restaurant "Como Inn" in the city (Milwaukee Ave) and the Marchetti family had the great Montefiori estate (Lemont). Montefiori translates into "Mountain of Flowers" in Italian. The Montefiori Estate also hosted the "Ferrari Fantasia" events. Joe also created the wonderful Chicago Historic Automobile Races at Elkhart Lake/WI. I first met him in 1980, he was so nice and just lent me a metallic grey 250 GT Cabriolet S2 for the weekend, we had never met before and he didn't know me. Here's more about the Marchetti family, from the Chicago Tribune 1992: https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/ct-xpm-1992-08-30-9203180877-story.html Marcel Massini Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
This photo was taken by fellow fchatter Dyke W. Ridgley (aka DWR46) at the 1975 Ferrari meeting at Joe Marchetti's in Chicago. Rare 365 GTS Spider and 365 GTC Coupé, with a yellow Miura and a Daytona in the back. Alfa, Fiat X1/9 and Lamborghini Espada further back. Those were the days! Note unusual mirror on the 365 GTC.
