812 Replacement Rumors

To make matters even worse there is a difference between Imperial HP and Imperial BHP (BHP subtracts the losses needed to run the engine ancillaries). We should all revert to metric HP (or even KW), as nearly all manufacturers (apart from American) quote this figure. Slow news week...

 

I was under impression that UK and US are using only Bhp figires as those are always present in magazines. But there appears to be also this alternative "US-HP" measument which results in a bit higher readings. Does US press actually list US-HP figures as Bhp too?

WHP is not really issue here as manufacturers are unlikely to list horsepower on wheels figures. And if they do, certainly there is a WHP tag then.

 

Didn’t someone mention that dealers got a preview of F167 last week? Would think there would be some leaks/rumors coming out of that.

 

I am certain that all publications mention the figures provided to them by the press releases. I guess that in the UK it is BHP and in the US HP; both Imperial. This nonsense has to stop. Metric HP (or KW) for the whole world please! Even McLaren name their models after metric HP (the 720, 750 etc).

 

Some European dealers, have been invited "today"..with the announce that they will show them something new for the first time..

 

That's Lamborghini who does that, when has Ferrari ever given a private preview to dealers? I have only heard of private previews to top clients (who could include a dealer principal but not to all dealers in general). I cannot imagine any dealer divulging details from such a preview (and risk losing their franchise)...top clients have done that in the past and then (probably) got banned.

But, maybe Ferrari is doing this now? That would be a rather large change in their business model...

 

After a quick check for some car models, things seem to be like I expected.

UK bhp = US bhp = US hp

Same figures for all, regardless of what has been specified.

Funnily enough, Google converter thinks that

horsepower = metric horsepower

One dealer publicly quoted being at a private event this week to see something… no other details were provided but it certainly fits the rumours above…

 

100% confirmed.

 

My understanding is that they did this for the 296 and have done it for F167

 

I’m sure if any dealer does “leak” information it is done in conjunction with the Factory as part of Ferraris plan to build up interest before the launch and maximize demand. No dealer would risk losing franchise leaking on its own

Do you think Ferrari will leave something special to the 812 ? I mean .. in the last years it has often happened that the old models have kept something special vs the corresponding “ new “ model .Ex: 458 vs 488 ( last v8 N/A) 488 vs F8 ( last turbo without GPF ), F8 vs 296 ( last v8 turbo ) etc… Maybe they will produce only the f167 coupe’ and not the spider ? Or , I mean.. just something “ different “ from the 812 in terms of technical standards so to leave “ something special “ to the 812 ? Thanks !

812 Superfast and Monza SP1 & SP2 share the final top end V12 engines with traditional valve gear.

812 Competizione and Daytona SP3 have finger followers and so will F167.

the last of the beautifully designed V12s ended with the F12
maybe this 167 will change that but the 812 with its twisted wet towel side profile and turtle shell rear hatch will never be beautiful regardless of how many aero bits and slots you add on to ala Competizione

Interesting take. Although i had an F12 for a short time (and loved the car), I much prefer the 812's over all styling in the flesh.
In real life the F12 can look too long and narrow, and the back end just doesn't work for me, i also can't unsee the uterus memes... They "fixed" all these things on the TDF.

Are you a fan of the Roma's styling? I really don't care for it. I find its overall shape bland and its details ugly and fussy. It also seems to sit "above" the road, not hunkered down "on it". I'm really hoping the 167 doesn't follow the same styling language of the Roma....

 

And here I am in the opposite camp. The 812 is ungainly, fat and ugly in my eyes, much prefer both the F12 and Roma which is why I've owned both but not an 812.

So would you be happy with the 167 being an evolution of the Roma design language, or would you rather something quite different?
