I am new to the Ferrari forum, I have had many sports cars over the years but never a Ferrari and am now looking at a 2019 Lusso T (not from a Ferrari dealer, but a large dealer). I currently own a 2023 Porsche Panamera Platinum Edition and enjoy the car but have always wanted a Ferrari. I have heard many good and bad stories about the Lusso T and Ferrari in general with regard to reliability. Am I crazy to trade in a 2023 Panamera under warranty for a 2019 Lusso T that is basically out of warranty (it does have the 7 year maintenance warranty). Can anyone be honest and let me know if this would be a good purchase or a money pit. What should I look for? Thanks so much!

Thank you! I appreciate it! I have been looking through the threads, but it’s more about giving up a 2023 Panamera for a 2019 Lusso T. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I own a 2012 Panamera and a Ferrari FF so my opinion may be worth something. I would not do this trade unless I had another car. IMO, a Panamera is a daily driver, a Lusso is not.

Much appreciated for the opinion! I was under the assumption that the Lusso can be used as a daily driver? I usually drive between 6-8 K miles a year maximum.

A Lusso T is very much a daily driver but if the warranty bothers you so much, I would look for a CPO from the main dealer just for that peace of mind.

The Lusso is definitely a daily driver, like the California/Portofino, FF and other recent GT Ferraris. People generally put a good amount of miles (and smiles) on these cars.

The T (V8) does not have the PTU like the V12 engine. No 4WD too. Therefore less money to spend in case something goes wrong (which is not often).

Design, style, engine, interior, sound, character, performance/handling,…, it’s an exceptional car and it’s a Ferrari.

Buy the car you really want, have a PPI done, get a CPO if possible and don’t look back as life is short. But whatever you do, buy within your means.

I (mostly) daily my Lusso and love every minute in it. It's the best all-around car out there - not the best at any one thing, but great at everything.

That said, it's an expensive daily driver. I don't know, but I'd guess it will cost more to own than your Porsche. Some thoughts:
    1. The Lusso is still depreciating. You will accelerate the depreciation doing that many miles (that's a lot by Ferrari standards). I don't know how it compares to reasonable expectations for your Porsche.
    2. The Lusso T won't have the risk of PTU issues like the FF and V12 Lusso, and the engine is well-sorted. You might be pleasantly surprised by the reliability. That said, it's older than your Panamera, warranty coverage will be more limited, and repairs will probably be more costly on the Ferrari when things break.
    3. You should be able to extend powertrain warranties on the Ferrari for a long time (15yrs?) through a dealer. Of course you still have to pay for the coverage.
    4. You will save on maintenance for the first few years with the Lusso. Not sure how annuals will compare with the Porsche thereafter.
    5. I don't know about the V8, but the V12 Lusso gets comically bad fuel economy. Hardly the biggest expense, but it will add up over 6-8k miles.
My 2¢: There's a good chance that the Ferrari will cost more to own. If that's going to be a source of stress, it's probably not the car for you right now. But if you think you can live with that, go drive one. And if you love it (I bet you will), do it. You only live once. And life is better in a Ferrari.

I cannot express how much I appreciate the feedback! I’ve been trying to figure out what to do and the responses have been amazing and have really helped! Does anyone know if I am able to add a warranty if it’s not purchased from Ferrari but another Dealership? I know the seven year annual maintenance warranty continues wherever the car goes, and once again, thanks!

Find a good Ferrari mechanic near you first. Then look for the car of choice and like others have said have a PPI done and bargain for as much warranty and service as you can get. Don’t hesitate about buying a modern V8 Ferrari, they are good cars but do have their quirks. Once you learn about and accept the uniqueness of your new Ferrari whether good or bad you won’t regret the change, just don’t try to compare it the Porsche, they are different cars in so many ways. Half the fun of owning a Ferrari is finding the one you actually buy. Enjoy the journey!!!

I agree with the comments above. The FF and Lusso are definitely good daily drivers, they have 2 downsides:
    1. Expensive
    2. Draw attention
Also, the sound of the V12 alone makes any issue meaningless, there’s nothing like it.

Yes, you can get the extended warranty. You have to have the car inspected first by a Ferrari dealer, which depending on the dealer could cost you $400 to $1000. Plus you will have to pay for any repairs they deem necessary to warrant the car. Also, be aware that if the car has any aftermarket parts, e.g. exhaust, you will probably have to have them replaced with stock

I was in this same situation for a while.
I had a custom ordered panamera turbo s sport turismo, got it as a family car for having our first kiddo. The leg room in the back of the panamera was comfortable, but with the baby seat behind the passenger it pushed the passenger seat too much forward. After the Porsche dealer raised their lift with the drivers door open on my car and folded in the a-pillar, I was due for a new car, always wanted a Ferrari, had to be the v12, need the 4wd where I’m at for the snow and ice.

I love my Lusso, buy it and move on, it’s my daily driver, kiddo loves riding in the back. Just make sure you wait for the exact options you want. I had to have the glass roof and a certain color so my car took some time to find.

This is good advice. You can't spec it yourself, but figure out what 2-5 options are a must, then wait for one that (a) has them and (b) "speaks to you" (i.e., the rest of the spec suits your taste). Better to be patient than to stumble on a car you like better a few months after you buy yours...

It took me something like six months to find mine and I was prepared to wait longer. Eventually a car came along that knocked my socks off.

    Welcome to the forum.

Hopefully I can help as I have a 2018 Panamera 4 e-hybrid (971.1) and an FF. I also have plenty of seat time in a friend’s Lusso T.

There is no doubt that the Panamera is a supremely competent car but if you gave me the choice between a Lusso T or a Panny, I’d take the Lusso every time.

There is a nimbleness about the Lusso which the Panny can’t match. Add to that, the racier styling and the fact that it’s marginally smaller means you get a much sportier and exotic experience with the Lusso.

I’d also add that by going for the Lusso T and not the V12, you’ll be missing out on driving one of the greatest engines of all time.

Don’t sweat the maintenance. Porsche can be unreliable/expensive too. So if you want the peace of mind, get the Lusso warrantied. But most F-chatters self insure as the warranty isn’t particularly comprehensive and the largest bill you’re likely to encounter is $10-15k depending on your dealer so it’s better in the long run to self insure. I’m over $50k ahead on NOT buying the warranties for my F-cars.

I use AIG Private Client, though am due to shop around to check prices. Their customer service is less personal than it used to be. I will say, however, that when I've had claims, they cover it. No headaches, no shenanigans.

Preferred vehicle accident insurance providers will vary from location to location.

For mechanical insurance, if you insure it yourself, you will always be covered - regardless of any modifications or after-market part!

We daily FF and Lusso. Added 15k miles to each. Perfect daily car. Have you test drive the Lusso yet?

Yes, I did test drive the Lusso and loved it. My concern is using it as a daily, will there be several trips to the shop for minor repairs, and possibly unexpected, larger repairs? I know I can get a warranty, but also was wondering if that’s absolutely necessary?

I was kinda in the same boat as you, I have a e63s wagon that I absolutely loved. fast, practical and it did everything I wanted except sound and feel like a Ferrari v12. I bought a RRsport that I daily drive and selling the AMG wagon.:)

It has been a while, but I wanted to update that I finally did purchase the 2019 GTC4 Lusso T, and traded in my Panama platinum edition! I purchased the Lusso T from my local Ferrari dealer CPO with a two year bumper-to-bumper warranty. It gave me peace of mind, and I absolutely am in love with the car. I waited for one that had all the features and color I wanted, and it does not disappoint! Thank you so much everybody for all the input! It really did help in making my decision. I tried to upload a photo of purchase day!
