Yes, in 1959 Ferrari had one of his drivers punch the team manager to the ground after an engine failure !
There were drivers tantrums in the 60s (Surtees, Scarfiotti), drivers breaking their contract and walking out on Ferrari.
But in general, Ferrari drivers didn't dare to complain publicly about their car or the way the team operated.

It's bad the way he does it and has NOTHING to do with racing. I don't expect any driver to bring that garbage to the race broadcast. They should do it online if they must or on a special interest broadcast for groupies.

I'm sure you've seen the many vanity segments that LuLu enjoyed on race weekends where he is sitting on the couch being interviewed by someone while he was averaging 5th of 6th place on a good Sunday. It was apparently important to hear His opinions about things in general.

No other driver received that spotlight. So why Him? Someone paid for that airtime just to give him a stump to lecture the world from.

They should stick to what matters---racing.

And Vettel, while not getting the spotlight like Hamilton, he too showed signs of what you're describing as well no?

I can give you a list of what Vettel showed on the track.

I agree, it should just be about racing.

I prefer we stick to racing as well, but at the same time we live in the real world and sportsmen are humans too. So they have opinions and belefs. So let's not be surprised when they act like humans. Sir Lewis Hamilton is a grown man. I have no place in trying to tell him what to speak on and when to speak because I don't want nobody telling me when to speak. I applaud him for activism, maybe their are a lot of scared drivers who choose to be quite on certain things.

Sure. And what if a staunch conservative driver was given the lecturing stump every weekend (impossible I know) instead of LuLu? You'd be fine with that, right?

The hypocrisy is when you speak of what you're speaking of and in a sport where it's an exclusive club of heirachial mega manufacturers with mega $$$$$$$, these drivers are really putting their foots in their mouths when they speak of these things. That's how I see it.

It's like owning a $250 million yacht made by Lurssen and you come out on Twitter saying you're an activist....it's hypocrisy.

The thing is F1 is like his office; it's his job, not a place to express political, religious or social opinions.
We all have different takes on politics, social or environmental issues.
Would you like to turn up at work and be preached by one of your colleagues?
Would your employer like to see your place of work shared with others, transformed into a tribune, and be lectured by someone ?
I know many would not. It's the same in F1; people pay a hell of a lot of money to come and watch racing, relax and enjoy themselves, not to be reminded of the ills of this world.
God knows how much I liked Hamilton as a brillant driver, admired his talents at winning for so long, collecting podiums, wins and titles. I have been taken to task so often about it, called a fanboy, etc ...
I don't care how he dresses, the music he likes, the people he associates with, but really, Hamilton started to piss me off when he became an Influencer with his brand of activism, and bringing issues F1 doesn't need.
I am in fact quite sympathetic to some of these issues, but I don't want to hear about them when watching a sport.
Yes, we are talking about aggressive activism here, like wearing offensive T-shirts, endorsing controversial groups, making challenging statements, etc ... I respect Hamilton as a driver, not Hamilton as an activist

Thats why i have never ever followed driver in F!, they all have some form of crusade.

Regardless of how much money you have, you cannot buy style or class, so i kind of like it when they make tits of themselves

It doesn't matter if their conservative or not. I won't have problem with it. But Sir Lewis Hamilton doesn't say things every weekend. I haven't heard him talk activism during an interview in years. He mostly have been talking about the team playing catch up, and the gap to RB during his last podiums.

All of us want drivers to do one thing and one thing only. Football players to do one thing and one thing only etc. But again this is the real world. They are real humans not robots. Sir Lewis Hamilton is not the only driver to promote an agenda. I take it, it's part of any sport . Comes with life.

If you just focus on the yatch and no other changes made yes I see your point. That doesn't mean other life sacrifices are not going to a cause.

Not all players, not all drivers, not all artists abuse the privilege of having an audience to lecture people about their opinions, beliefs, causes, etc ... In fact, those who do that are real turn-off for most folks.
Most celebrities, sporting or artistic, keep that to themselves, and I personally like that.

It's called class. Some drivers have it and some don't. Tsunoda showed it when he physically helped the people in Italy clean up after the floods that canceled a GP. He got his hands dirty doing the job, he didn't lecture others on what they should do. Hamilton doesn't have class. He went from being a great race car driver to being a professional "black" celebrity. I can't think of another driver on the grid who brings their personal opinions or issues to the track.

Agree. It takes courage speak on certain things because like you said , some people it's a turn off. Some celebrities are afraid of that, some are not. To be honest I forgot about most activism he had done. It's been years since he speak much on it, heck I get reminded more of it here.
