I am restoring sn 5507 which is a S1 330GT 2+2 that left the factory in Nocciola 19397M. It has been repainter in the past but retains a Nocciola M color. As shown below a test spray on parts of the bonnet, the 19397M is significantly lighter. I beleive that modern colors do not correctly replicate the original copper tones and would like to consult the community regarding the proper formula for Nocciola Metallizzo

There is a 275 gtb sprayed in Nocciola which I believe is said to be a later color 106M27, but is much more to my liking than the lighter test below.

    All input is welcomed.

Unless I am mistaken, GTO Engineering are said to have bought #5507 and retained its identity, engine, gearbox and suspension to make one of their SWB replicas. See here.

If so, are you just restoring the body/chassis and using the engine/driveline from another car?

It is correct that GTO is building a SWB based on the identity. I bought the entire car, minus drive train, suspension and identity. In Sweden it is possible to get the car road registered again, but not as a Ferrari and not with the original vin. It will no longer have a ferrari drive train as there is no economical sense to put the effort in. However the chassi and car will maintain full originality and when the suspension and drive trwin is a fraction of usd50k and 130k respectively, they will still just bolt on.

It will a perfectly original car, with a bit more modern ferrari suspension and remain a gt-car.

The plan is to have it back on the road by next year.

I see. Good luck with your project. This however is proof that GTO Engineering do not just use donor cars and their identity that are too rusty/too far gone to restore, but butcher/cannibalise good and authentic Ferraris to make their fakes.

The car was in pretty good shape, but still an old car needing some rust repair

This is the market, you can buy a decent car for 150k, sell the parts for more than 200k, retain the title and sell a great looking gtb for a million. If the prices were higher on the cars and lower on the parts, there would be less incentive.

The color issue has been resolved by using solvent based paint instead of water based. It has had a full rotissery restoration and bare metal respray. The rechroming of trim and retrimming of the interior is ongoing, returning the cosmetics to full original spec except for the suspension and borrani wheels. Original 330gt 2+2 15” campagnolo wheels and flat spinners will be used. Suspension is off another Ferrari and the Koni dampers are replaced with Swedish gold - custom built Öhlins.

I am in need of a boot latch as in the picture - it is a square one for an early series 1.

Do anyone by any chance have one for sale?

Yours is a SI so most likely had Borrani not Campags. Also I thought flat spinners did not come until 365GT ?

You are correct about the borranis, but I like the look with campagnolos. The flat spinners were used on the 330 shooting brake and suits the wheels. Although not 100% true to originality, it is still close enought and it is easily corrected if the next owner want the borranis.

If by "flat spinners" you mean the one pictured below -- those actually are correct for the campagnolos during the early series 2 production run, later in the series 2 production run, they switch to angled spinners for the campy wheels that looked a bit like the angled Borrani spinners, but had a prancing horse in the middle instead of "Route Borrani".

Those are the ones I’ll be using. They were not that easy to source in decent condition.

Image Unavailable, Please Login I may be wrong, but this is an early 330gt 2+2 and based on what is available on 330gt registry, was the first Ferrari speced in nocciola.

it is now almost done and soon to be able to drive on the roads again. Everything has been restored, bare metal respray, rechroming of original parts from the original car. Missing or added peices are from 330gt 2+2, including the wheels (as discussed above). Although being one of the less desirable ferraris, great length has gone into maintaining originality.

There are deviations from the original that will create a debate, one being independent suspension with custom Öhlins dampers.

Not to contradict you, but aren’t there more than one Nocciola?
The 330gt states 5409 as Nocciola 20458, not Nocciola 19397M.

Factory records state for 5409 GT the color Nocciola 19397 M.
Not a single 330 GT 2+2 was born Nocciola 20458.
A total of 24 units (330 GT 2+2, all series) were born Nocciola 19397 M.
There are/were at least seven individual Nocciola colors/paints, in general (for all sorts of Ferraris).

This is a case where Ferrari must have conflicting records. A Heritage certificate dated July 2003 states Nocciola 20458 A It..
