What was the serial number of your car and the specs (ie - colors, wheels, etc.)? Did it have the original drivetrain? I'm also curious to know more about your comment regarding rocker panels. How rusty can these cars get?

Azzurro really complements these cars. Too bad on the color change...even though it looks great in Rosso Rubino as well...

I believe my number was 9881. I'll double check. Completely original car. Interior original. Factory AC. Steel wheels. When put on a rack, I could tell the rear quarter panels had been dinged, but no sign of any wreck damage. The prior owner had put on an electric fuel pump. It had been painted resale red by a prior owner, who was a lawyer in Portland OR. The original color was burgundy, which I'm sure was a beautiful color for a GTC.

It was a good ol' car, but tired. Last I heard, about five years ago, it has been restored and owned by a F-Chatter in Virginia or North Carolina.

Rust? You realize none of these '60s cars had any rust proofing. Moreover, galvanized steel didn't show up until the late '80s. So, yeah, if water gets trapped inside the rocker panels, you're going to have rust. I have heard of vintage cars rusting through while being stored in Arizona because they were not thoroughly dried after washing. Thinking back, my car had almost no rust, or at least, I didn't see any rust.;)

Timing in life is everything. I paid $90,000 in 2005/2006 and put almost zero money into it. I sold it in 2008 for $200,000 as a 3- condition car (according to SCM). My guess is the next owners put at least $400,000 into it. I'm also guessing it is probably worth between $600,000 and $700,000 today. There is no free lunch on these cars.

I quit washing my collector cars, other than washing brake dust from the wheels...and perhaps wiping the bottom of the quarter panels if they need it...years ago. Otherwise, it's quick detailer and a microfiber cloth...

Good idea. This is also why many of the hard-core collectors use storage with dehumidifieres.

Probably wanting to get repaid what they may have in to it? The market may be too soft at the moment for that to happen.

The owner was expecting $1m. He doesn’t need the money. (He is a ginseng expert farmer)

I spoke with him today. Asked him if his family has any interest in the car. He said yes his son loves the car and has driven it before. So I suggested rather than selling it keep it in the family.

I tried to explain that if it is kept in the family his son can drive it like it should be. I told him my 330 has been well driven. The more it’s driven the better it is. He said he and his wife like the newer Ferraris they own and drive. I said perfect….give the GTC to the son and everyone goes home happy!!

Hey! I could be an adopted son! ;-)

Perhaps the underlying question is: Can any 330GTC truly command $1M?

    A 365 GTC, perhaps; a 330 GTC I think not.

I think at the height of the market a 330 GTC sold for around $950k. I think that was back in 2014. At $825k that’s above the current market for a perfect GTC.

As a long term 330 owner I can tell this is not a perfect GTC. I can tell you what I saw but I don’t want to get into it. The only reason it got that high in the auction is because it’s Naples. Plenty of money here…

I think they are 450 to 600 right now……I’m not sure why but they are very soft.
Under 600 made. Less than the 275……but people smarter than me get to decide what they are worth.

having said that who gets to decide which artists become famous and which ones die as starving artists!

I dunno…the GTC is my favorite of my 10 cars. In a way it’s worthless….cause I won’t ever sell it.
