Could have pitted ... doesn't quite cover it. SHOULD have pitted.

At the moment of the accident, at the moment when pit decisions needed to be made, every team expected the race to end under green (based on average safety car interval at Abu Dhabi, plus the pre-race agreement by all teams to end under green if at all safe to do so).

Listen to Hamilton's radio well before any decisions by Masi ... even Hamilton knew it was a huge BLUNDER, by Mercedes, to keep him on old tires.

wait ... are you suggesting that the entire season is an accumulation of points, and not just the final lap of the final race?

That's some crazy talk right there ...not sure it fits the right narrative

    ;) :D:p

Statistically, the average safety car interval at Abu Dhabi was one or two laps LESS than the remaining lap count in 2021. YES ... every team knows this data, going into every race.

Also, every team knew about the pre-race agreement to end under green if at all safe to do so.

All teams must make a split-second decision to pit or not, based on available data IN THE MOMENT ... they can't wait until the race is over, and jump in the way-back machine. Based on ALL available data IN THAT MOMENT, the expectation was that the race would end under GREEN.

(listen to Hamilton's radio, well before any decisions by Masi ... Hamilton knew his team screwed the pooch BIG TIME)

That's false. All teams expected the race to end behind the SC. They only cleared drivers between Verstappen and Hamilton. Everybody else still had to overtake them and that would take another lap making the race ending in a SC.
Christian Horny manipulated Masi and got his "miracle" by being corrupt as usual.

None of those broke the rules. And Bottas hit Norris, not Verstappen.

There’s literally no argument that makes what happened in AD2021 on. Not one.

Dude. You can't go by statistics. You must FOLLOW THE RULE BOOK. Statistically the Spanish GP has 1 safety car. If crashes happen and 3 safety cars are needed, you don't rely on statistics. YOU MUST FOLLOW THE RULE BOOK.
I don't give a darn if the Abu Dhabi safety car lasted 2 seconds. FOLLOW THE RULE BOOK. I don't care what Sir Lewis Hamilton said on the radio. It's up to the race director to FOLLOW THE RULE BOOK. Give me evidence on teams agreeing to brake the safety car rules. I'll wait. If you want to finish under green, use the red flag. Not break the rules.

Rules were not broken. Under the article ANY does not mean ALL. That article has since been updated after 2021.

Hungary-->Bottas created a melee after hitting Norris which took out several drivers to include Max.

    WRONG.

AT THE MOMENT of the accident, WHEN pit decisions needed to be made, all teams expected a green finish ... based on 2 hard data points:
    1. The average safety car interval at Abu Dhabi, which was 2 laps LESS than the number of laps remaining in 2021.
    2. The pre-race agreement by ALL teams to end under green, if at all safe to do so.

I'm not talking about much later, when unlapping decisions were made. Minutes ... even seconds ... are an ETERNITY in racing. I'm talking about the moment of the crash, when pit decisions need to be made.

Even Hamilton knew it was a huge BLUNDER to stay out on old tires ... listen to his radio! He was complaining about his team's failure CENTURIES before any unlapping decision by Masi.

Yep. If rules were "broken", you keep the rules and fire the race director. Instead, the exact OPPOSITE happened ... the rules were changed, and the race director was kept (until he quit). That tells you pretty much everything you need to know :)

(even the pro-Hamilton stewards agreed, after the race, that no rules were broken)

Instead of debating what anyone said about the FIA report, or debating any interpretations of the FIA report ... why not read the report ITSELF:

    https://www.fia.com/sites/default/files/2021_f1_abu_dhabi_grand_prix_-_report_to_the_wmsc_-_19_march_2022_0.pdf

NO MENTION of "human error" in the report itself. NONE. Please correct me if i'm wrong, and quote for me "human error" from the report ITSELF.

What we DO find in the FIA report ITSELF (rather than interpretations or opinions about the report) are the following quotes:

"31. It was apparent from the analysis that there could be different interpretations of Article 48.12
and/or Article 48.13, and that this likely contributed to some of the confusion surrounding the
safety car unlapping procedure. It was therefore considered that these provisions of the F1
Sporting Regulations would benefit from clarification.
    "

No mention of "broken rules". NONE. Instead, the FIA recognizes different interpretations (of course, the rules give the Race Director full authority to make critical calls, in the heat of battle)

"32. It was also considered that the decisions regarding the safety car at the end of the 2021 Abu
Dhabi GP likely took into account previous discussions (including at meetings of the F1 SAC, the
F1 Commission, and F1 Team Managers) that made clear the F1 teams’ preference to end races
under green flag racing conditions, rather than behind a safety car, when safe to do so. The F1
drivers’ consultation confirmed that finishing a race under green flag racing conditions remains
desirable, but that safety should always come first. If for safety reasons it is not possible to
withdraw the safety car, the F1 teams confirmed that they would accept finishing the race under
    safety car conditions.

The FIA fully recognizes the agreement by ALL teams to finish under green, if it is safe to do so. There's no mention of the Race Director acting in any way that would be considered "unsafe". NONE.

"34. In a recent E-Vote, the WMSC has confirmed a rule change that clarifies that in case of unlapping
« all » cars rather than « any » cars have to unlap. Further investigation into the F1 timing system
shall clarify whether a « virtual unlapping » procedure could bring advantages and simplification.

The FIA confirms a RULE CHANGE. Why would a "rule change" be necessary, if a Race Director simply "went rogue" and "broke the rules"?

"35. The results of the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and the FIA Formula One World Championship are
valid, final and cannot now be changed. In accordance with the rules, Mercedes made a protest
to the stewards after the race, seeking to change the race classification. The stewards dismissed
the protest and Mercedes then had an opportunity to appeal that decision to the FIA
International Court of Appeal, but did not do so. There are no other available mechanisms in the
rules for amending the race classification."

Finally, the FIA VALIDATES Max Verstappen as the 2021 WDC.

There's really no point in debating this further. The FIA has been quite clear: no rules were broken, and Max Verstappen remains the VALID 2021 WDC.

Every Lewis fan damn well knows as soon as Latifi crashed that they expected the race to resume with Max behind on fresh softs and Lewis on old hards. All the teams though the same. The error happened when Masi said lapped cars will not be allowed to overtake. Lewis fans seemed to like that detour of normal SC procedures. There is radio from drivers that couldn't make sense of that. If there was any manipulation going on, it was those trying to keep the race from resuming or not allowing normal SC procedures to happen. All of this protected Lewis. Then the one guy that had the authority to do what was right, decide to let one of the best seasons in F1 history to end on track. Lewis was leading the race with the best engine and the best chassis. He lost to the better driver with better tires. The end.

2025 is going to be sooo horrible to constantly hear about Abu Dhabi.

Basically you are saying Masi deviated from the rule book because of his own interests. It's not his job to decide what he think is right. He job is to follow the rules.

I said IF there was any strong arming done. IF he did go rogue and made his own decision which is what the race director does. It is their job to make decisions on the fly and it has been that way for decades. In any case I think he made a call that put the 1-2 drivers in the correct the position, the way it should have been in the first place. He did follow the rules, it's been stated enough times. The question that never seems to get asked and certainly we have no answers to, is why was there an announcement to not allow lapped cars to go through when there was still like 3 laps to go?

Wolf pick and choose what he likes that the FIA stated. In the aftermath, the FIA stated there were human errors. Both the FIA report and the human error statement are from the same people. You can't separate them. My question was how can you follow the rule book and make a error at the same time? Obviously the the FIA is saying the rules were followed correctly.

No. Both are reports from the FIA. First was the report from the investigation, and then a follow-up report to conclude the investigation.

    EXACTLY.

There's the official, written & released report ITSELF. No mention of "human errors". No mention of "broken rules". Instead, we find rules "open to interpretation". We find that all teams wanted a green finish (if it was safe to do so). We find the need for a "rule change". We find 100% validation of the 2021 WDC championship!!

Then, there's opinions & interpretations ABOUT the report.

    Two very, VERY different things.

And, of course, history has demonstrated the ultimate VALIDATION by the FIA: instead of keeping the rules and firing the Race Director, the FIA does the EXACT OPPOSITE: they change the rules, and keep the Race Director (until he quits)! That sums it all up, with ACTIONS instead of WORDS.

AND. Here is the conclusion report that says there were human errors. Guys, there is only one FIA. Both reports are from one source. You are not seeing two here, assuming you aren't drinking at this moment.
My question remains how can one follow the rules and make errors at the same time?

Masi himself issued a safety car clarification in Nurburgring confirming how a safety car is used. Politely ignored that in Yas. That’s on record. He ignored personally his own updated rule. Idiocy and all by himself. If this were reversed the crap eminating from Marko would have been caustic. How dare poor Max to suffer lol. Sorry this was all Masi and encouraged on record and tape via Wheatley at RedBull. Masi being released is the final proof of the error!

I accept (and have about 100 times) that Max is the 2021 WDC.
I brought this up (and should have known better ;)) because William decided that Lewis had somehow lost a step (as he was contending for his 8th WDC), which is rather humorous, since had things been handled differently on the last lap of Abu Dabi, Lewis is 2021 WDC.
But that's not what happened and here we are.

ummm .... you do know that Masi QUIT, right? The head of the FIA has confirmed that Masi was NOT fired ... instead, he QUIT the position.

YES, instead of keeping the rules and firing the Race Director ... which the FIA would do, if the Race Director simply "went rogue" and "broke the rules" ... the FIA did the EXACT OPPOSITE: they changed the rules, and kept the Race Director!! (until he quit)
