Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login My 458 has the error code (air bag light on) my dealer says it’s from CPOD in passenger seat (CF racing seat) and the only way to fix this is the whole seat need to be replaced because Ferrari doesn’t sell CPOD sensor alone for racing seat.

I don’t want to spend $15,000 so I did some research and found this part from scuderia website there is CPOD sensor from 458 regular seat (sofa). Has anyone here ever used this part in racing seat? I just wondering if it’s plug n play. Thank you so much.

yeah its plug and play....if you look under your race seats now you will see the grey plug in. Just plug this one in and leave it loose under the seat till you clear the codes then get it installed. I had to get one too. You see the grey plug in this picture(friends car)?

honestly its just a bunch of stitched in clips that hold the leather to the seat. its really up to you if you want a shop to do it.

Any update on how the installation went? I am getting the airbag message for passenger seat when ever the passenger moves in the seat. I have carbon fiber racing seats too on 458 spider.

I ended up placed order for new seat. The dealer said they don't want the liability of putting the new sensor and Ferrari won’t sell us the sensor only ..the whole new seat needed to be purchase . I’m still waiting for new seat to show up ..been 9 months now

    Boiler Inspector,
Did you replace the CPOD Mat as well or just the CPOD Sensor? If so which Mat did you order the one for standard seat or the Daytona Seat? Just want to know which one would fit better in the passenger carbon racing seat.
I have the same issue and it drives me crazy anytime my wife moves around in her seat and then I get the warning lights for the key cycle.

I've never replaced the CPOD sensor in my seat. I was just providing useful information. So I can't say for sure.

Boiler, Thanks for the quick reply.

FChat Members - has anyone replaced the CPOD Sensor and Mat to fix this issue specifically in the carbon racing seat in a 458?
If so did you replace both the Sensor and Mat? If so which mat fits best in the carbon racing seat? Standard PN 83566200 OR Daytona/Diamond PN 83566300?

Thanks for any advice you guys can offer,
    Frank

Fv81587, after talking with a Ferrari master tech, it sounds like the CPOD sensor which is paper thin, can literally be bundled up and zip tied out of the way under the seat and will turn the airbag light off. If I recall, it’s only a sensor that works with certain children’s seats to disable the passenger airbag. As long as you don’t plan on putting a young child in the passenger seat it’s not really an issue.

See if Qavion can figure out the wiring for the CPOD and perhaps something like this could be adapted, spliced in the plug wire etc. to bypass the pressure sensor. Just a thought for a [possibility for this insane problem, Good luck. Maybe you can call the manufacturer and they can configure it for the 458. Maybe something like this could be rigged to work.

The CPOD is not a pressure sensor it is basically a radio antenna for car seats equipped with a transponder.
WE see then fail often enough that we stock 83566100 and we use it on all of the 458 seats. We do have an upholstery shop help with it as the quality turns out much better. If you wanted to try an emulator I would suggest the one for the Mercedes as the Mercedes seats work with the Ferrari system so I suspect that module will work. part numbers 83566200 and 83566300 are protective covers for the CPOD antenna not the actual antenna.

Thanks for all the replies. I went ahead and ordered a new CPOD sensor 83566100 and had it installed by a local upholstery and custom interior shop. Be aware that PN does not fit in the carbon racing seat bottom without modifications. It's too wide due to it being for a daytona seat bottom and the electronics box is in the middle instead of at the back of the seat. But since the seat was apart and I was sick of the errors on the dash we modified the bottom foam cushion and installed the new sensor. I've driven the car ~10 times since and no errors and the seat feels the same so I'm happy.

Thanks - I can't help myself anytime there's anything not perfect I have to fix it. I just replaced the engine identification sticker in my engine bay too since it had a crease in it. Haha

No - I was expecting to see a crack in the thin film or something but no nothing obvious. We used a steamer to get it separated from the seat cushion and it came off pretty easy. See the pic of the old vs new.

If someone else is going to try the same repair in a 458 with carbon racing seats it may be worth investigating if the F430 CPOD sensor is more narrow to would fit better and if the connector is the same? It also happens to be a couple hundred bucks cheaper than the 458 one.

I just bought Squires used sport seats to put in my 2011 458 with Electric Daytonas. I plan on using the modules from under the electrics and hiding those with custom harness extensions. I have a source for plugs/connectors and wiring. I was going to pull the CPOD from my Daytona (cheap way), but curious about the emulator. As a “cover” is designed to provide a “present” feedback like resistor or is a coding thing?

I also have consider buying a 430 CPOD sense cheaper and hiding it under the carpet, to avoid taking the seat apart. I can do it and have disassembled many seats, prefer to cheat on this one. I need to be able to put the car back to original configuration. I am also considering a full carbon console and other carbon bits. No hurry on that, but in the coming years. I hope to keep this car for quite sometime.

Thanks for any help. And also note, I have enjoyed all the info provided by Frank! Appreciate the effort Frank! Squires sent me your discussion. Cheers!

It's only 3 wires so if you want I guess you can use the old not working CPOD plug from the 458 and use it on this 430 one if you really wanted too.
But i rather just get the 458 part
