As I sort out the million little things on this beast... On the right-hand side of the frunk is a leather strap for holding the leather-bound tool kit - and the lower strap is broke. Anybody got a source for this little piece? Looks like somebody tried to patch it before, but that clearly didn't work... Kevin Image Unavailable, Please Login
there are a few threads with solutions already present .. most get done by local show/ leather repair person Search for the threads - easist way is to use google .. and type in subject and then ferrarichat
I think the go-to is either find a leather belt and make your own, or I always see people recommend these guys https://www.tworedbirds.com/ferrari-accessories
I ordered from tworedbirds and didn't get a chance to install the new pieces for quite some time. Once they were finally Installed, it turns out they were way too short. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Hi Kevin I ordered from them. Parts were of high quality and exactly what I needed. Process to change them all out is a little tedious but not difficult. Results are great. Good luck. Matt
Thanks again for the link - have the straps (only for the toolcase on the side) en route so will be into that "tediousness" in the next week or two. They recommended I also replace the straps on the firewall, but I'm going to see how tough/easy/tedious doing the ones on the side is first... Then another noodling little problem checked off the list! Kevin
I replaced my straps in both my 360 and my 458 Italia. I did not do everything myself. Elected to take the straps to a saddle shop locally, removed all buckles & hardware to be used on the new straps. Ordered leather punches for the holes. Nice project. Can't believe the slurry leather straps Ferrari & Harley uses now days.
My strap broke a few years back, so I moved the tool set out of the frunk. Surprised the durability of the leather strap is not what I expected.
In order to do it right you’ll need to remove the frunk panels. Don’t try to do it without removing them. There are metal backing plates on the inside of the panels. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
I know I’ve seen a l DIY for this before, but haven’t looked for it in awhile. Do these use rivets that need to be drilled out? Or just hardware from the back side of the frunk panels?
The pop rivets go through the front strap plate, then through the frunk panel, then through the aluminum backing plate. I drilled mine out on top of a 2 x 4 piece of wood on the ground. Very easy actually just time consuming to do it right. Take pics of the frunk panel locations before you remove them from the frunk. They need to go back in the same as they were before you removed them. Amazon has the correct pop rivets. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
This was surprisingly easy! To get the right side panel off, had to first remove the back (I would say “firewall”, but..) panel and the small panel in the front - but everything is simple hex head bolts and very accessible. Then there’s few jobs easier than drilling out pop rivets and putting new ones in. Kevin
Correction to above… One of the straps I received from Two Redbirds is significantly too long and doesn’t have holes punched in the right spots. So… toolkit can’t actually be strapped in! I’ve emailed Two Redbirds to rectify the situation - updates to follow… Kevin
Easy street is to zip tie the old leather together. Best IMO is order from Ferrari since were $15 each not too long ago but need to find proper rivets.
Here’s the genuine Ferrari part… https://www.eurospares.com/Ferrari/430/F430_Coupe_(USA)/PartDiagrams/0053/TOOLS_AND_ACCESSORIES_PROVIDED_WITH_VEHICLE Kevin
The original Ferrari straps are complete garbage. When they break you can see something like cardboard in the middle of them. If you can’t match that last one, go to a shoe repair shop. They’ll be able to make you some out of strip leather. Sent from my iPad using FerrariChat.com mobile app
Closing the loop - evidently(?) more than one strap type was used in the F430 - so they've made me one that matches what I have and all is good. Two thumbs up to Two Redbirds! Kevin
Timely thread…one of my inflator straps just broke so I ordered replacements from Two Redbirds. Could someone please link me to the correct rivets to purchase?
kd, Nothing super special about the rivets… I had 3/16” in hand, and that was too big to fit through the backing plates so I had to buy 1/8”. I’m sure the correct answer is metric, but Home Depot doesn’t carry that locally and I’m willing to be a fraction of a millimeter “off” to no ill effect. Kevin
Maaaaaaaybe - or maybe not! From my viewpoint there appears to be (at least) two strap options that were used - but I don’t think the difference was “regular vs Scud” - although I do believe the Scud uses TWO straps for the toolkit, while the “regular” coupe and spider F430 uses one for the toolkit. Anyways, back to the straps themselves… The theory is that, for the “tongue strap” (that inserts into the buckle), for some cars it’s 13.5” long with 6 holes 3/8” apart starting from the tip 2.5”. While for others it’s overall length of about 12 1/2” with the five holes starting at about 2 1/2” and then being spaced every 3/4”. Take a close look at tours and see what camp you’re in! Kevin
