I have a lot of problems: All the infotainment is useless. Android Auto is not on offer, so you can't replace the useless navigation system either. The operation with the touch buttons is insanely difficult and therefore dangerous, as it is distracting if you have to constantly search for the pressure point. You can't select anything, neither with your fingers nor with voice commands. The dashboard creaks between 80 and 100 km/h. The jukeboxes creak. On the racetrack, the performance is simply sensational, but what good is that if the brakes overheat after just 5 laps? The brake pads are worn out after one day - the sleeves have also melted!
Ferrari has so far shown no interest in any of the complaints. The only feedback is that you don't just have to select "race" on the racetrack, but switch off the driving aids completely. With 830 hp, not such a good idea for a gentleman driver in my opinion.
What a shame for a beautiful car with fantastic performance :(

    Hi, I hear you...
Not to dismiss your experience as unique or due to your driving (I do not know how experienced you are on track), but I have a different experience. Two consecutive days at Le Castellet with my 296 on Trofeos. My brakes did not give up despite intense 20 minute sessions. Over the 2 days, the car overheated once as I was seriously battling to fend of a "friendly" 765LT. Before that as I was more "fluid" on the track and making my best times, the car functioned flawlessly.
But, you are right, there is no doubt that after 15 (or 20 minutes max) you have to cool the car. Seriously one cannot expect more from a car that is heavy and not purely designed (at all) to be on the track and driven at its max capacity till you run out of fuel.
I was told to drive it in the ESC off mode to better control overheating the brakes not in the all off mode, just in case. And the car is still very manageable in that setting at least with Trofeos.
For the tactile buttons on the the steering wheel... Better not need them while driving.
For Android auto, it is a joke. It says on the manual that it is available. It is not.
    I love the car anyway...

Thanks for the tip. I will try the esc off next year. Supposedly the Ferrari electronics regulate more via the brakes than Porsche, for example. We'll see.

Every good dealer will usually toss in scarf or a coffee mug when you buy the car, you did get that didn't you? And the magazine? You'll love the magazine.

  5. Ferrari OEM brake setups are terrible.

Go aftermarket. I did for my Pista with ST brakes - world of difference.

Probably too early for a 296 fitment, but you should ask.

Dame... I am heading to track in 2 weeks. I used to track a Alfa 4c and even that little car's E-LSD would chew up a set of rear pads by the end of 2nd day. Do you feel the pads overheated or the brake fluid?

Last week I took the stock pads off the 296 and have them scanned and sent the files to Pagid, hopefully they will make something for us and we have more choice on brake setup.

Maybe also look into your braking. Adapting the way you brake might avoid this overheating issue. Brake late and hard and not to long. Corners need to be taken at the highest speed possible. Try to avoid STOP and GO technique. Hope that helps you the next time you are on track.

Are there replacement pads which would last longer from specialty brake manufacturers? Thanks

Been lucky to avoid issues so far. I suggest leaving the car in Long Parking Mode

everything you said makes sense. esp the part about the brakes. our new range rover has rear wheel steer. its programmed to hit those brakes alot. ran them out at 12k miles. i can imagine with the electronic trailbraking feature this car has the brakes get chewed up. do you know what kind of brake fluid is standard from the factory> how did it go against the 765LT? what tires did it have?

For the brake fluid I will need to ask. I honestly was surprised when the F mechanic at the track told me he did not change the factory fluid. He always did for my 488GTB...
As for the 765LT, I do not have a lot of good data points. I saw it close to me in only one session during the whole day. One thing I can say is that it seemed faster than me in straights (but maybe he had better exit speeds, I don't know) and I did not dare stay close under heavy braking as the 765 looked "scary" as its rear wing would suddenly lift and I had no intention to risk rear ending it should its breaking beat my 296's. All in all I thought the 765LT was faster than me. Or at least the guy driving it was a better driver than me.
As for the tires it had on I cannot say as I did not think of going and look closely in the pits.

For sure the rear trail braking is the culprit and understand how turning the esc off will help for sure.

This happened to me last night. Identical error messaging and sequencing.

My conditions were the same E-Drive, turned on to warm up, 1/4 of fuel. My service writer from the Nashville store told me it's likely something to due with the low fuel level and the downward grade I started the vehicle on. He's noticing the latest generation of cars are very picky about fuel level conditions.

I filled it up, car ran and drove perfectly. The CEL is still on but I was able to clear it with my handheld Bosch scanner.

The CEL Code was a P1479.

tires are enormous. BIG diff between them. but if you were on cup2 R's that's about the best thing short of slicks. always a good idea to not follow too closely on the track- if they spin or blow you'll have a problem., but moments can get to us.and for sure- driver experience is the biggest thing. i was just curious though.
