    Hi all.
Earlier I posted a thread about being dissatisfied with the gearshift of my 456.
It's mainly when shifting both through the gears and in between 1st to 4th gear.

This winter I've changed the gear oil in the gearbox with Redline 75w90NS in hope of enhancing the gearshift. Winter is still around, so I haven't had any chance to drive the 456 since the service. Drained gear oil looked fine.

I was reading through the workshop manual and came across the linkage adjustment. From what I understand it should be centered in neutral. With the images provided below, is this centered enough? I don't have another 456 or 550 close by to compare the position of the gear selector.

    Best regards,
    Ole

Here I'm shifting the gear selector towards 1st and 2nd. I feel it's very close to the bottom gate.

Also shifting the selector towards the camera. Close to the gate.

I’ve set these up many times, and it’s something where really small adjustments can make a huge difference. Often takes quite a bit of trial and error to get the gearstick positioned just right to make each gear easy, though the final position isn’t necessarily bang on the middle, in fact it rarely is. Once it’s set up though, it can’t really go out of adjustment though (unlike cables that stretch over time).

The easy way to tell if the position of the gearstick in the centre of the gate is causing issues is to just test the shift with the gate removed. Remove the gate and it’s it’s a regular gearshift. If it’s stick resisting then, you’ve got a different problem.

Thanks! I'll have a go when the road salt has been washed away!
