Don’t mean to beat up a dead horse but given the technological advancement, I thought maybe we can share some new development abt upgrading the radio in the f430 or 360?

If you upgraded the stock radio of your 360/f430, pls post what you upgraded with and if possible, your rationale of your choice?

Let me start with my preference:
-no permanent big screen to disturb the interior of the car, plus I prefer not to hv anything blocking the AC vents. I wud, if necessary, consider a flip up screen model
    -wireless CarPlay compatibility

I can’t seem to find any model that does the above two and the closest one being:

-Pioneer ABH-Z7200BT (DAB) version for Europe: flip up screen and wired CarPlay.

-Porsche PCCM single din version: small 3.5” screen and wired CarPlay.

These two are the closest I can think of, hv I missed any?

I’m actually tempted to fit the PCCM into my f430 while finding a way to ‘black out’ the Porsche logo if I can’t find better alternative! [emoji28]

I did just this when I purchased my F430. Ended up sending the unit back.

Install of the PCCM was a breeze. The unit didn't feel like it cost as much as it did, but was happy to make a few sacrifices for the small screen which I felt was a good fit (even though it has a Porsche logo on startup every time).

Here's the odd part I wasn't able to figure out. When installed in the car, I was prevented for accessing any menus. It would constantly say that the vehicle had to be stopped even though I wasn't moving. Something within the factory harness wasn't playing nice with the unit and it thought I was moving no matter what I tried. When I bench tested the unit with just 12v, it ran fine. No issues. I triple checked everything from the vehicle to make sure no random signals were being sent and disconnected just about every connection aside from the car's own 12v trigger and power. Something with the way the power or the switched 12v from the car was causing the PCCM to think I was moving. There was zero support online for that unit and Porsche techs were of no help. I was able to enter the programming screen of the base software on it but it didn't help at all. I was hoping to disable the safety portion of it that didn't let you access setting menus while driving. Ended up getting my money back while I still could.

To answer your question about the flip screen. My car came with one of the Pioneer units. Yes, the screen was large and it worked, but it looked so forced and tacked on. For starters, the screen covered the lower portion of the vents when deployed. Second, in order to get the screen to be vertical, the radio had to be spaced out a good bit which looked odd when the screen was in. It just looked like a poor install. It was a function over form install that did no favors for the interior of the car. I'd rather use a paper map than have that back in my car.

I ended up just getting a marine grade Sony unit that looked simple and clean and gave up on adding a screen. I wish I could find a company that would let me design my own head unit as the PCCM concept is great, but needs to be more universal and have a bit better quality on the feel.

It's no longer available new, and doesn't have Carplay, but the Alpine iDA-X305 is a decent choice as far as getting a more modern color screen in a single DIN radio size. I have one in my 360 and it's looks good for what it is.

Unfortunately most manufacturers have stopped making premium looking single DIN head units. There are a few offbrand models available on Amazon/Ali express, but I'm unsure of the quality and sound. Phyee F7805C might an option.

Which is a crying shame. I realize the market use to include all new vehicles so business was booming, but I feel there is enough of a need in classics to have something. Maybe not Alpine F1 Status price, but I'd spend a bit to get something decent that doesn't look like a spaceship. Speaking of Alpine, I feel like they hit their peak in the early 2000's. I had a few new units back then that had way more features, audio tech, and personalization than their new ones. It's like they all just cheaped out. I still have a nice made in Japan unit in my wrangler that I plan to swap over one day.

Only two signals were power and ground and the PCCM thought you were moving? How would that be any different inside a Porsche?

Constant/switched/ground. So three technically. I have no idea in the world. It was a complete mystery to me, especially since it didn't have any of those issues in the bench test. It's not like it was a particularly smart unit or anything. Apparently I wasn't the only one though. I searched for weeks for a solution and there were just as many others having similar problems.

Score! Can't wait for that to come out. I'd prefer the more "classic" look of the Porsche but this might blend OK.

Can’t wait for this thing to come out. Happy with my Joying 6.5” for the time being, but don’t love the big screen look. Been trying to find an acceptable single din, wireless CarPlay unit. Any idea on release date?

I’ve seen those images floating around eBay. Looks photoshopped. Either way, doesn’t fit the car in my opinion. Good luck trusting that the hvac interface actually works.

Just got a reply. They're aiming for an August release but it could be longer. Said they'll let me know when it's in the final stages.

    From my Notes:
---> Might be. Here are two more custom builds. Basically, the HVAC Panel gets modified.
Audio Shop in PA did these. I can PM you the info from my notes cause I don't know if I'm allowed to post it publicly.

Big Radio no doubt buying out their patents and throwing them away. Nobody wants us to have CarPlay in a single din it seems :D

Let’s hope it’s due to some improvements or maybe to quell some of the emails/questions that might be bombarding their inbox.

For real. I don't get it.

Alpine: Let's make a $2400 head unit that only fits 7 years of a Jeep Wrangler.

Also Alpine: The restomod market that extends across multiple brands and decades of cars and trucks is dead. No one could possibly want to pay $1000-1500 for a hi fi single DIN.

Yeah I'm not sure what's going on. It looked about like this one if memory serves except the area between the knobs was all screen.

Yes, it had Apple carplay and nice screen even though it was small. Not sure if it had Android auto. I emailed the guy I was corresponding with to see what the deal is.
