    Trying to track down an engine safety latch part number #61668600 or alternative for a 288GTO. Any help would be appreciated thnaks.

    That number is for a rear number plate light.
    The part listed as the engine cover safety latch is 61603600. It that what you are looking for?

    I have never seen that latch anywhere else. If you have one I'd take a picture of it and send to Midwest Bayless Italian Auto and see if they recognize it. They are a good Fiat parts supplier and may be of help. Could be a garage cabinet door latch for all we know.

    There are some on the web, a lil different but it should work as an alternative.
    They go by "compression" or "trigger" latches. Hartwell made them but hard to find. Eberhard still makes them but slightly different.
