Update: The seller counter offered $85 plus shipping. Does he even realize it can be bought on Amazon for less with free shipping? Does he not see that the most recent sale was nearly three months ago at $49.99? I detest ebay anyway. Very few items are auctions, simply an electronic display window for buy it now items.

It seems to me that at current levels this book is vastly overpriced.

Your comments on eBay are a bit ironic, because 20 years ago, I actually bought my Ferrari 328 on eBay (after talking to the seller on the phone and viewing the car in person, of course)!

At least they keep customers updated on developments, quite unlike some others.

Received by email today from publisher.
    A SPECIAL FOREWORD
The printing of our upcoming title “Millanta on Ferrari 1947-1952” has been completed and the result alone has already knocked our socks off. The next step is to screen print the linen and then bind the masterpiece. The books will be ready for dispatch at the end of March.

You are certainly wondering why the book is being published a little later than planned. In a nutshell: we were waiting for another foreword. And who would be the perfect addition to the foreword by MariaTeresa Millanta, the daughter of photographer Corrado Millanta? That's right, Enzo Ferrari's son:

    Piero Ferrari

We are delighted to have this opportunity and would like to thank Mr Ferrari warmly for his very personal foreword.

    A SPECIAL EDITION
In addition to the Limited Edition (limited to 550 copies) and the Collector's Edition (limited to 75 copies), there will probably be another special edition (limited to 47 copies), which we can't reveal too much about at this point. If you are interested, please send us a message to [email protected]

So there's a Limited Edition, Collectors Edition and Extra Special Limited Edition. :(

Seems like they are taking ideas off Porter Press.

How about just a Standard, Regular Edition please.

Have a feeling that the potential edition of 47 copies ( strange number ) will have something special differentiating it from the other two editions so am interested as to what it is. I don’t have a problem with multiple issues just with publishers upping the price when the books are close to sold out. These guys don’t do that. Palawan is clear about the pricing from the start. Porter however up prices ( Ferrari 250 GTE ) when stocks are low with no pre advice. In fact they said the book was sold out before discovering more copies and upping the price.

This is about making a few extra pennies. You can be sure that these 47 copies will be leather bound, signed by another few dignitaries, and sitting in a nice box.
If they can find folks who are willing and able to buy the merchandise, why not?

On the other hand, publishers do not discover more copies of a book, they know when they sold all stock. PP is just playing a game with willing takers.

In French it is called leche vitrines: shop window licking (virtually!): it does not actually achieve much but is pleasant:)

Peh, even at 30% off, that's still at least 30% above prices, it's not surprising that they have such a large stock of unsold products.
