For road/track these days Im thinking
    GT4RS
    Z06

Thing is you cant actually buy a Gt4rs, unless you nwata a car loaded with crap options, and want to pay the flipper upcharge on top of that. So a 160k car becomes a 250K car and even then someone else who didn't care put 500 hard miles on it.

Got to say, rolling around in a lowly 996 porche one is impressed by how well they do things like clutch, shifts, steering and the great smooth unburstable feeling motor. There is how fast you go, and also the experience with going fast. A blunt instrument, vs a precision one. GT4rs got to be a great ride.

I just picked up a 718 Cayman S to use for track duty. Going to have some mods done to make it better set up for the track.

I agree the lowly 996 has a great blend of balance. Probably a bit underpowered for track use, but otherwise unbeatable as a throw around, fun, precise car on back mountain roads.

    I miss mine…..

I disagree. 996 is a class leader in scca club racing where we typically see 160mph at daytona as example.

Acknowledged and accepted. I’d never had mine on track, but the car impressed me greatly in the 20 years I owned it.

I'm still getting used to the whole porche thing, the way you sit in it, the relationship to the wheel, the flat bulkhead, the front end bobbing about, its just different.
I do love the way you can just flatten the pedal off an apex and feel that rear so just dig in as it absorbs all the drive. Too bad the 996 looks so blah, I guess that why the 997 is the apex.

Still as a runaround the 996 is a great car, very wieldy, not too big and yet not so small you feel like you'd get crushed.

Still we know 997 gt3 is the one to have, cause its buttoned down has the motor and looks.

Glen is such a great track. I raced it once and look forward to racing it again this June then seeing the falls.

With all the rain last year, the falls were just raging, never seen it like that before. The waterfall as a torrent when behind it couldn't see past.
June should be good, ill be up there may 2x and then July sept. The Geln and LRp are my home tracks, and Im in and out the Ne May-Sept. Living in Fl for most of year now need to spread the wings further..
I hear if one likes the Glen then VIR is a close second? Also want to try Road America
Havent heard great things about Fl tracks.

Yes! Love FL tracks because I get to flyfish too. Sebring is the best flat track in the country and daytona well there is nothing quite like it. I'm off to road atl next month and then VIR April. My year will complete at road America in June and I may race it again for Runoffs in September. It's a travel race year for me this year. The last track I want to race in America is Barber. Next year I'm thinking about Europe... the ring, spa, and silverstone.

Porsches are the best tools for track use that I've seen and worked with for the last fifteen years. The C7 Z06 is a good value and the 1LE ZL1 Camaro is good out of the box, but hard on tires and brakes. Both of them are popular and ideally suited for this sort of thing. The 996 is getting a bit long in the tooth, as is the 997 GT3, IMO.

When people ask me what is the best platform for track use if I only had to choose one, it would be hands down the Porsche mid-engine platform, either a 981 or 718. Yes, the GT4 is nice and perfect, if you want to spend the coin, but a 981 S is a great little car.

A shame about Moroso (PBIR). Looks like it's warehouses now. A lot of fun, that little track.

Will be going to Porsche for my next track car. It’s being shipped Monday.

I lived in Ithaca for 2 years while attending graduate school there. It was phenomenal!

Top tracks in the eastern US?

    The Glen
    Michelin Road Atlanta
    VIR
    Sebring

All top tracks on the eastern US and top bucket list tracks. Barber, NCM, Pitt Race, Mid Ohio also excellent and worth doing. Daytona is fun for the experience.

Next year I’ll try Road America, Ozarks and FlatRock.

I’m at Road Atlanta for two days with Chin, perfect weather! Sebring in Jan was awesome. Absolutely best flat track I’ve done to date!

VIR next month, then Watkins for 7 straight days in May.

In August I’ll be doing The Ring and Spa!

Hopefully we’ll meet on track soon.

As an aside I wonder how long porche can defy gravity. Their dealers tack on an extra 20-59k and I hear the soak on service.
Recently on bat a 175 mile 296 bid to 20k below list. Maybe a 450k car is just too Much $$ and that explains it or maybe gravity is going to get to porche too.

yet even their older cars like from 2015 seem to be fetching good money. And they’re making 50k 911s per year. How to explain it.

are the Italians just too expensive for not really useable preformace, or is the market shift gong to hit porche too or is porche the Rolex of cars and unassailable

asking for a freind who really wants to order a gt4rs

Let me see if I can make Trackmasters.

But that would make 9 track days at WGI in May. Nuts! Am I crazy enough?

Thank you! I make two treks a year to Watkins from FL and since it’s such a long trip I always piggyback events. Last year I did 7 straight days.

Could you send me the link for Trackmasters? I’m not seeing it on their home page. I’m inclined to sign up, will need to bring lots of tires and brake pads.

    https://trackmasters.com/schedule/

We'll be there may and sept. Theyre limiting to 50 cars which is better esp on an open track format.

Funny Im contemplating bringing my car and trailer down to Fl for winters, stopping at VIR on way down and back up, just need to figure out where to store it as house in fl is only a 3 car garage and its full. A friends building a big barn, but thats just permitted so a ways off.

Tires for me are 2-3 days or more like two and sometimes a bit more depending on heat cycles, pads 5.
Converting the car to monoball bushings this winter which Im quite excited about.

Hopefully all else works and its a fun summer.

Do you see much difference is the boxster platforms with bolt on hard tops vs. the cayman? I see you noted 981/718. Are the prior generations more problematic say with maintenance or getting parts as they age?
