NASCAR who dat?

Apologies but interloping the NASCAR section with a classic. What a little gem of a short. Faulty commentary throughout and plenty of interesting background cars that could only be usual fare at the Bridge. No mention of Pearson or Lee in the field, but a clip of ‘Worth McMillion’ and ‘Dick’. Italian back marker getting passed caps it off.

never heard anyone refer to him as "Dick Petty"

in addition to the backmarker Ferrari (Lusso?), there was a California Spyder and a number of other cool cars in the parking lots

They had it wrong at the start, putting Petty in a Ford and Lorenzen in a Plymouth instead of the reverse, but they got it right later in the video. I've heard Petty referred to as "Dick" fairly often in older videos. I wonder what he thinks of that today. And I was surprised to only see 17 starters.

 

I looked up the results to see if the Ferrari was listed but no, so I’m guessing just 17 NASCAR guys and the rest were SCCA or whatnot.

Fairly certain the white car is an Iso Rivolta. Such a cluster muck of commentating, especially as it wasn’t a live presentation. Guess no one was knowledgable enough to proof the clips they used. I thought for certain Roberts would be in a Catalina but I was incorrect, he must have flipped to a Galaxie in ‘63. The whole clip is everything I could ask for.

 

interesting to see the mechanic at 0:14 who was setting the valve clearance with a feeler gauge for the solid lifter camshaft. Parking their spectator cars on the 'track side' of the fencing was a bold move by a few fans! The track surface would be like driving on ball bearings with all that sand there. Still some nice drifting...

I'm pissed. Frm has a Tier one technical alliance with Penske this year, yet their potential race winning car committed suicide in the first stage with electrical issues. Most of the race hasn't been great. Stupid moves from Hendrick hacks trash half the field. Moreof the same this year it seems.

 

How does Wallace not get enough fuel in the last pit stop?

 

I'm guessing it was a communication issue

Hard to believe Hendrick hadn't won the race in 10 years. A 1-2 on the 40th anniversary of his first win just seems right.

 

3 wide finish at Atlanta with 0.00 difference on the official timing. Pretty amazing.

 

Looking visually, it was virtually impossible to distinguish between Daniel Suarez (nearest) and Ryan Blaney (furthest away). Kyle Busch (middle) was just a hair behind. Wow!

racing was good, but mostly a function of the low HP package at this track. give them more power and they'll separate, finishes like this are less likely but almost the entire field got involved in some form of crash. it was a pretty sloppy race overall.

Something noted elsewhere: Daniel Suarez's fiance' is Julia Piquet, daughter of F1 champ Nelson Piquet and sister of Max Verstappen's girlfriend, Kelly Piquet.

 

I'm glad they didn't throw the yellow for that single-car wreck just before the end. The 4-wide stuff in the corners earlier was pretty amazing too.
