Asking price doesn't seem too stupid, you'd probably be able to knock a bit off. Not a fan of the colour though. 458's are really nice. Future classic.
Engine bay heat is a killer. I've got some high flow cats to go in which should hopefully cool the place down a little.
Bay heat is not an issue when the headers are ceramic coated First unit was bastardized by previous owner and I buggered the second when I broke the engine mounts which let the engine move which broke a thousand dollar oil line that leaked on the alternator
+348 When I purchased my car, it came with around a 1" thick pile of invoices for all the work and repairs done to it. I've kept the invoices etc for all the stuff which I have done to the car since I've owned it.....................which is not much btw.
Ouch those lines aren't cheap. I always wince when I see my mechanic wrenching down hard on mine. Just watching for the fastener on them to snap off. I might have to look into getting the headers coated... But I really do like how they look as they are... Proper coating would be OK I guess.. Not that bandage-like wrap that a lot of people put on, or even worse those blankets.... The heat under there is just mental though. I'm surprised anything survives very long.
I've got a stack of invoices going all the way back to 1999 for mine and stamps for services prior to that. Have you added up all your invoices? I have.. it's crazy scary. I'm glad all that work has been done already, I wouldn't want to have to deal with all that.. I'm talking seriously crazy money hey. I think it might have been cheaper to own a Cessna.
That's good man and no I haven't. I haven't spent much in my time, BUT!!! I did see a few aircon invoices in there that the last owner paid, a couple were AU $4000 for aircon evaporator replacement jobs etc. A couple of aircon evaporators?? Give me a break! They normally last the life of the car, even in a Ferrari I'm sure. They were obviously taking him for a ride. I've had the same aircon evaporator in that car since I purchased it in 2005 and only aircon work I have done was 1x blown aircon hose and the front seal on the compressor was leaking once. So a new hose back in 2007 or so and a new compressor in 2017 or so. Aircon freezes your face off. " The 1" stack of invoices from the original owner and previous owner I can only imagine would tally into the multi of thousands of dollars if the last owner paid $8000 for 2x aircon evaporator jobs lol One day when I have time I will dig it all out and go through it. Maybe next year when I move all my crap into the new house in Mackay. I can sift through it all then.
I posted about this previously but some of the supposed work done on the Mondial was a joke, especially from a few well known mechanics. I can only assume they basically couldn’t be bothered fixing or diagnosing things properly and billed for some half arsed “fixes” which basically did nothing so the owner tried another mechanic and so it went. I have very little faith in the Ferrari independents and unlikely to use any
Name and shame or do we just Google ! So over the Social media BS of one Melbourne mechanic ,WTF restores a guys ex UK 308 and ignores original ball joints !
I've personally never heard of an evaporator getting replaced unless it was damaged... Strange... But I did recently put in a brand new A/C compressor because I thought it would be nicer than just replacing a dodgy seal on my (almost) 30 year old compressor.... Brand new compressors can be had pretty cheaply if you know where to look (screw buying "OEM"), so I just had it done when the engine was out during its last major... It'll last another 20 years I'm sure.
True, or just get a set of Tubi headers. Beautiful, and correct 4-2-1 design. Heat shields included. No loss of proper 355 sound. Tubi headers, hi-flow cats, quality aftermarket exhaust, and Challenge grille = zero heat issues, zero CELs, a bit more power, and enhanced sound. And never had to replace an alternator (even if I did replace virtually everything else. )
I'm running Fabspeed headers, OEM Cats and a Capristo.. The OEM cats are soon to be replaced with some high-flows... Was really considering a cat delete but I can't stand the smell.... I'm going to do the O2's, heat sensors and the Cat ECU's at the same time - just because. Mine's a 2.7 which makes it a lot simpler and a lot less risk of any CEL's. No challenge grill here.. Call me weird but I actually prefer the solid colour... I know they're not as good for cooling but I still prefer the look myself. But yeah.. In 25 years of ownership there's almost as much been spent on repairs and maintenance as the cost of the car. Still.. It's worth it.
Anyone who pulls an alternator apart to put the diodes in the wheel arch for cooling is crazy. Put in a new one and it never overheated I talk to PP and he seems happier now and a delightful man, I'd prefer him back than some others here
Ceramic coating is durable if done well, but in my experience has only a small effect on engine bay temperatures. I have temp readouts on the heads of my Indy car (the metal temperature not the coolant) and the before and after header coating was less than 2 degrees. Ditto my Daytona and Corvette where I saw no meaningful change after coating, the headers just look prettier.
Agree when we did the rebuild on the Trans Am Boss 302 and dropped the compression to 11.1 I also did the ceramic coating, which looks great, but with the heat gun, we noticed little difference in under bonnet temp.
