The package could be retrofitted for a large sum

See if this helps. In the US, only 2010 and later 599s had HGTE as a factory option. The full retrofit kit could be fitted to 599s later than SN 156938 and it was possible to buy kits with less than the full upgrade. You would need to understand what parts were upgraded on this 599.

It looks pretty good, there are very few sticky bits and it is nicely optioned. I haven't ever seen the spare tire option. The bottom bolsters are a bit worn down and the dash leather next to the passenger door has a pucker like there may have been a water leak. The photos conveniently blur or exclude the dash/defroster vents; from one of the photos the end appears to be flexed up. This is common with dash shrinkage AND the vents tend to break. 6 years ago, redoing the dash leather was over $5,000 and requires tearing the entire dash apart.

@tazandjan is correct that you need to verify what was added/done from the HGTE kits. They have correct wheels, exhaust, & grill, but they could have just done the exterior package. You can't tell from the pics if they flashed the TCU, new springs, sway bar, etc. The complete package was $42K in 2008, I have the receipt from when my car was originally done. It included everything but seats and that car has the CF seats already, like my car does.

There are several threads that cover the most common issues. Do a search, or even just skim back a few pages, and you will find them. There are fiddly things and there are some issues that can be expensive to fix. Parts for the 599 are expensive and some are difficult to source so, the choice/price is ALL about condition.

I love the color (same as mine), it looks like the seats and tach are not HGTE also to my eye it looks to be at the standard height not lowered with stiff HGTE springs in the front. It's a beautiful car I hope it works out for you.

Remember that it is a 2008 so it has a dealer installed HGTE. I don't know if anyone ever did the tach and seats as part of a retrofit.

Spare tire ..I'm not sure, but isn't that a rare option? Priced good, looks good, I would go see it in the flesh. Some sticky's but not uncommon, and some carbon.

Yup, spare tires are rare in all the Ferraris from around this period.

2008 here with the full retrofitted HGTE package with wheels, torsion bar, tunning, shock adjustment, shift changes, grills & some other bling interior items. Understand at the time from dealer, Boardwalk, about $45k. I added an entire CF engine being package from Italy which made it go 50 mph faster in my mind.

    Love the setup.

Thank you all for your input! Hopefully going to fly out and look at the car later this week. There was a black on black HGTE at one of the shows at Amelia over the weekend--one of the best colors for this car IMO. Slims down the size and works well with the body lines.

That was a gorgeous car--the black on black with yellow stitching HGTE, right?

Is the car referenced at the beginning of this thread still at Ferrari of San Antonio? The given link sends me to an "error" page. There is a black 599 with a dealer installed HGTE package in the show room at the moment. I'm considering trading my 996 GT3 towards it. I'm open to suggestions and any info anyone has regarding the car there. I've never ridden in a 599 so any insight on how it is versus my GT3 would be helpful. I do know the car there now did not meet reserve on BaT back in January.

Two totally different cars, the 599 is huge compared to the GT3. The 599 is definitely not for everyone I happen to love mine, 7 years of ownership.
