Dang that's ugly. Such a shame because in stock form it's a nice looking car and with the later Euro front ends it gets even better looking.

If I recall correctly, there was some discussion about the body kit in the original auction. I thought they were claiming it was dealer installed...

Discussions on BAT aren't always accurate or even truthful. I've never seen a body kit that made the Biturbo better looking unless it came from the factory. This looks like MIE fiberglass kit except for that atrocious wing. There were a couple of kits around for years.

I couldn't agree more. And for the record, my well sorted and serviced and great driving 2.8L injected 89 Spyder is listed elsewhere (Toledo CL and FB). It's my wife's favourite car! But unfortunately, I'm looking at another car that I have wanted since I was a wee tyke, so....

I kinda like this one, so I've been following this one for a few days.

I'm hoping that BAT's "bumper shill" buys it.
Check s6devil's bid history - His job appears to be a single bid to get bidding going "properly" on a high, or bump too-low bids by thousands, and then back out.
The exception to the pattern might be the Alpina B12 LWB.

I was thinking he might be buying this one, but was finally outbid.

I agree. Over 10 years ago I was looking at Biturbo coupes (I’ve owned 4 Maseratis over the last decade), prices were so cheap, dirt cheap, now things have changed…

It's going to need lots of detailing, especially that top with the water and mold stains. The engine needs a full detail but I'd be concerned about head gaskets. That's a big job. I've done it twice to 84 over it's lifetime. I'd bet this one has never been touched. Most likely the cruise control was added by Baltimore. I added it to mine but I no longer use it.
Dealers used to add all kinds of options back in the day.

Not to mention there is zero knowledge of the last timing belt change in the last 8+ years, which probably means that belt is far older than 8-9 years. Really sharp example otherwise.

Reserve Not Met (RNM). A video of the car driving wasn't posted until the last hour or two of the auction. It wasn't explained that the top does not go down, its put down. It wasn't explained or shown as requested by bidders... I kinda think this might have had a reserve with a $5x handle too... For that it must be spotless and you need to entertain the bidders questions. This is the second Biturbo that really could have done much better if the seller had put in the effort.

I think people see an absolutely amazing performance on Sunday and don't realize how much work went into it during the week! (Football) People see an ODB one handed catch in the end zone during the Super Bowl and don't realize it was practiced all week, all season long.

Yeah I too found it very odd no driving video was really posted and the seller was aloof in general. Probably because they just didn’t know much about the car in general. I noticed some of the turbo hoses did not have clamps too, meaning the turbos are there and functioning but not performing optimally. Running the engine that way for an extended period can’t be good

Looking to sell my 87 Biturbo Spyder 5-speed and injected. Original owner bought new in 1990, 31k miles. Mint condition. Needs the timing belt replaced due to age not miles, about 7yrs now. A/C is all there but no longer blows cold. Also have the original wheels and tires. Runs strong, burns zero oil. 4 car garage and just picked up a 5th car so the time has come unfortunately. Local dealer looking to consign for $22-25 and he takes his 10%. What would be a good price to list this at? Additional picts available. Located in Sarasota Fl.

This could be one of the nicest ever listed on BaT! Sad to see someone leaving, but excited to see someone joining the club.

If you had more nice pictures and actively engaged the comments (many of which are complete idiots posing as comedians), I think it would draw $25,000 or more! There were some impressive results last year, including an automatic that went for $50k. The timing belt is a few hour job, I would either do it or get it done and make it a no-issues car. I would disclose the A/C but not worry about it in a Spyder and present it with the OEM wheels if possible or at leas show them. Mine hasn't blown cold in a decade.

Contact Ivan the car nut, he has sold on BaT. It doesn't happen overnight...

1991 Maserati Shamal Sold for $85,000 on 2/14/24

Technically, this was the pinnacle of the biturbo era! V8, DOHC, 4-V, 6-speed, LSD, electronic controlled damping, etc. Looks, being subjective, could have been better. Interior was pretty nice following the theme of the FI cars.

Well yes and no. I agree that it's attractive but from a performance perspective the the Ghibli Cup was a better performing and better balanced car.

Shamal is a neat car but I agree the Ghibli Cup or even standard Ghibli 2L is the one I'd own.

I would have to agree (I own Cup 190). Doesn't stop me wanting a Shamal as well, mind.

Another similar example just showed up on BaT. It's had quite a bit invested into it so I suspect the reserve might be high. I think it would be reasonable to ask for more (perhaps much more) than wherever it ends up...
