I just purchased a 2013 458. The dealer handling the sale tells me it does not have a charger coming with it. I know I can find one online to buy. But he also tells me that to hook this car up to a battery tender, I have to go into the passenger footwell and attach directly to the battery. I'm not sure if he knows Ferraris well. They mainly sell 911's at his dealership.

Do all 458's come standard with a charging port by the passengers dash? Or do I have to install that myself?

    Thank you in advance.

Yep. If you want to bypass that port and directly attach to the battery, there's two plastic screws that hold a cover in place in the passenger footwell and you have access to the battery.

There is a charging port, near the door sill and underneath the glove compartment. If you are buying a 458 from a dealer, you should insist they give you a tender. What kind of Ferrari dealer doesn't do that! If they cheaped out on that, I'd have serious reservations on their screening process for cars they sell. That's absolutely unacceptable in my opinion. These aren't daily used cars!

Thanks. I actually didn't want to attach to the battery. And wasn't sure if I would have to have a dealer install the port for me. I'm glad to hear all 458's come standard with the port. My current car is a 488, and it has the magnetic charging attachment on the back bumper, which I have found very handy.

    Thanks for your reply.

I agree. I am a little worried about that. This isn't a Ferrari dealer. They deal mainly with 911's. They didn't even know a port existed, which is why I started this thread in the first place. But this was a 458 that was spec'd the way I wanted, and decided to buy it regardless.

    Thanks for responding

It’s just a cigarette outlet adapter you need right? I already have that adapter, so I won’t need anything different from my GT4 set up for this I don’t think besides switching the ctek off from the AGM setting.

    Maybe I'm missing something.
The Porsche cigarette lighter socket is always powered, even with the car off and that's why you can use that to charge the battery. The Ferrari's cigarette lighter socket turns off when you shut the car down and will not charge the battery. Use the dedicated charging port.

Bob, thanks for your reply! I am uneducated on the matter. I was asking if the dedicated charging port is a cigarette outlet type. That is, can I use the cigarette outlet adapter I have for my CTEK (instead of the alligator clips for example), or is there another adapter I must purchase?

    Thank you my friend

No the Ferrari port is a multi-pin port. Somewhere on these forums is a connector p/n cuz folks have added a port up front or other places more convenient than inside the cabin.

Since the time when I started this post, I have now seen the charging port in the 458. It definitely will not fit a cigarette outlet adapter. It is a 4 prong adapter. So you might have to purchase one. (If I'm understanding this correctly).

Google “458 3 pin adapter ctek”. You can find them on eBay, from a company called JMR or from a seller on our forums (although he is out of stock until June, I believe).

I got mine from eBay (user NBSpares). Ships from the UK, got it in a week works as expected

edit: congrats on the 458 send pics

Aforementioned seller here. Yes, unfortunately I won’t have stock of any 4 pin adapters until June. However, if you’re curious what’s different about my product and business, it’s that I actually care. I’m an enthusiast like each and every one of you. I’m not doing this to make a lot of money (there are far more efficient businesses), and I actually warranty all of my products. I put my own reputation behind every adapter I sell, I don’t hide behind a veil on eBay. The ones you see on eBay are often poorly assembled. I purchased one myself a few years ago, and it stopped working shortly after. I took it apart, and much to my surprise it was assembled only with electrical tape. I was unhappy to say the least, particularly given how much I had shelled out. I’m not attempting to disparage anyone here, but that is my experience with the other vendors. I started making these to provide a service to other owners, not to line my pockets.

Also, I can make any custom adapter you can think of. If you want to reach me, just PM me I’m always happy to answer any questions big or small. I ship all orders for no extra charge within the USA.

Yeah, I’d buy from this guy if your car has the Ferrari tender in it at the moment (it should). Mine did as well and I was waiting patiently until my tender stopped working and I was SOL besides my ctek 5.0 that was staring at me on my shelf

Good news folks! I was able to get my hands on 15 connectors! I can make any adapter you can think of (CTEK, NOCO, SAE, standard length, extended, etc.) Please PM me for pricing as this is not my for sale thread and I don’t want to commandeer it.
