The ones I had were hyperflow but no longer available New ones are capristo but I feel any 200 with a heat blanket would work better. They do have the 250 Image Unavailable, Please Login Capristo are expensive but they have very nice heat blankets
Capristo cats are overpriced. Tubi retails for 6200 USD. If you still have factory cats it’s a similar result to Fabspeed’s recording service. They use 200cell high flow HJS cats as well. You don’t need heat blankets on the cats, particularly on an NA motor.
As I said you don’t need heat blankets but it helps when passing emissions in cali If your cats are cold when completing the rolling road tests you will fail. I went to a small shop and they would let me drive right in after I took the car for a hard drive. Passed easily under these conditions
Haha didn’t notice that was in AUD. They retail in the US for 4600 w/o heat blankets and I bet Mike @ yellow compass discounts them. I guess the Tubi is overpriced than. My solution has always been to make an appointment for a specific time and then get the cats stupid hot before testing. The guy I use knows that the cars I need tested are finicky so he's accommodating.
That’s what I did before blankets now it’s. It a problem with out doing that. But as I said that works everytime
I would bet that all these manufactures use basically the same core and only fabricate the "container". Whether it's Tubi, Capristo, Fabspeed, ... my bet is all they do is bend tubing and weld pieces together. Making the cores is a specialized process and I can't see where these low volume manufactures would invest in that capability. That said, my Nouvalari 200 cell cats ($1100 for the pair at that time) that I bought in 2013 got me trough emissions testing in CT without a problem until testing was no longer required in CT, after 2020, due to the car being more than 25 years old. https://www.catalyticconverters.com/construction/
Capristo, Kline, and Fabspeed use high quality hi-flow HJS cats and builds around them. Others source cats from god knows where. Larini cats are $2300 and come with bespoke shielding. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I think you're right - many manufacturers use HJS cats which are a high quality metallic core cat. Magnaflow has a round 5" diameter 200 cell metallic cat which is OBDII compliant and would work great in this application - and they are made in house with their own cores. They are efficient enough that they usually won't trigger a CEL like most other high-flow cats do. Basically, the only way to do that is to throw a lot of precious metal loading at the core. But they have more than tripled in price since 2019, to the point where just the cats are way more expensive than you paid for your complete Nouvalari units. And then you would still have to fabricate the inlet and outlet fittings for them, along with the 02 sensor bungs.
While I'm absolutey sure HJS cores are better, I used magnaflow metallic cats on my car for years with zero issues.
I fitted ones from superformance. £1.4k now Been on for 3 years and fine so far. At that price more than happy.
MF has a lot of different products at vastly different price points, from super-economy replacement cats to high-end metallics. I've had good luck with their high-end stuff on other cars, but have not specifically used them on a 355. Their low-end offerings may in fact be junk.
My F355 came de-cated and I’m starting to get a little feed up with drone, this is only at idle below 2k revs. So want to get some sport cats. My setup already is Tubi manifolds + Capristo test pipes + capristo exhaust back box + Capristo value. What sport cats would everyone recommend? Here’s my car now:
