Hello, I am new Ferrari owner (2005 612 just off the truck two days ago) and new to Ferrari Chat. I have a sudden problem with the Check Engine Control System warning on the TFT display. It came on while driving home from the body shop and I didn't notice it right away as the TFT doesn't show up in sunlight well. Anyway, after I saw it I pulled off the road to consider. The car was still driving the same and I proceeded home (about 4 miles) without further issue, although I was driving it very gently! Anyway, reading the little info in the manual indicates this could be actual engine issue or emission control issue. After getting it home and letting it sit a couple hours, I did a restart, same as normal, and the warning popped back up again after about 10 seconds. So, I shut down and decided to post something here. I have not found any real Ferrari service closer than 2.5 hours from me so far and have a call into them for suggestions. I have had no luck finding a "search" function on FChat, which is really surprising, or maybe I am just missing it. So, I haven't been able to do any searching for content. I hope some more experienced users of the 612 or simlar vintage F-cars might offer some advice, just to get me started. I sure hate to pay trailer delivery for a simple checkout if it can be avoided. Thanks!

I don't think Search will help you... your symptoms are too vague... but go to the section you need (Technical Q&A or 612/599 section) and look for the search bar for more specific issues. See red arrow:

    Image Unavailable, Please Login

The search seems to be more helpful if you do the search on the subforum main pages, rather than, say, going to the search bar at the top of this message page.

Anyway, you will need a decent Ferrari-compatible OBD2 scanner and find somewhere to plug it in... Then read the faults. You may have to disable the immobiliser to read the faults. You can use the Search function to find recommended OBD2 scanners.

Unless the actual check engine light is flashing (rather than solid) you can drive the car without too much immediate worry. You should buy a scanner like an autel ap200 which has diagnostics for the 612 included as a free download. The scanner costs less than 100 dollars and you will want to have one for your routine checks on the car.

Until you read the code that is triggering the warning it is impossible to provide any meaningful advice. Once you have a scanner in hand you will get all the help you could ever want from the community here.

For some context, it might be helpful to post a few details about the car, spec, chassis number, and a photo or two.

Qavion: thanks for the response, however the problem is my screen doesn't show that search box at all. I can't find one on any page in the entire site! Been driving me crazy. Is there some setting I have wrong?

In some cases that can just be a dip in the electrical system (weak battery). I had that happen a few times when I had just bought my 458... when I switched over to a Braille Lithium Ion i48CS battery, all those kind of random warning messages vanished.

If the CEL doesn't persist, usually it's okay. You can also pull codes using a cheap OBD2 reader, although you'd need a more advanced scanner such as an Autel Maxisys or something to see more OBD2 data (or the dealer can check for codes, etc.).
