298 VS

Who thinks ferrari will drop the SF90 lump into the 296 for its VS version ?

V8 power, 1000hp. XX styling. Possibly a front motor for 4 wheel drive.

V8 noise.

Might be appealing

Would pose a problem for the nomenclature though…

 

That's a downgrade for me. I prefer the sound of the V6, and I prefer the way it feels. I do think it's the superior engine in every metric, and if you removed the badges and did a blind test, I'd wager most would pick it over the V8. I think Ferrari agrees too since they're putting it in all their competition cars instead of the V8.

(Note that I don't prefer it over the V12 or the NA V8 of the 458.)

40 kg is my guess. 870 PS and 40 kg down.

It is very unlikely to have less power than the standard 296

It is unlikely because as you point out it would no longer a 296 and it would cause a problem for the challenge cars already produced

 

40kg would be unacceptable imo

 

Pista and Speciale were both 90 KG, but there was no AF pack then. So that's where my thinking of 40 kg comes from. 40 kg from a like for like AF pack car. Maybe they can do better. We'll see.

At least Ferrari are innovating.
As nice as my Taycan is. It is not exciting at all.

the same goes for my 296. In electric mode it is completely underwhelming.

Now if ferrari make electric cars will they be exciting. Probably not.

So it’s good to see Ferrari thinking outside the box !
