    Hi everyone,

Would it be possible to bring in a European SP3 and drive it on street in the US? I know some folks did this with the SP1, SP2, J50, and SP30 under show and display, and I heard of some conversions.

I wouldn't want for us to have to go thorugh the ICI / EPA / Customs / DOT process for cars under 25 years old.

Does anyone know if the SP3 will be added to the Show & Display list, or any other way to get it converted to drive on the streets here?

AFAIK "show and display" is for "historically significant" vehicles that were never federalized. While the SP3 meets the former, it is street legal from the factory in the US (unlike the others you mentioned) which would rule it out of S&D.

I can imagine the premiums are immense, but the general rule is it's cheaper to buy a <25yo USDM car than to import, pay taxes and duties, and do a conversion.

Can not be done under show and display as the same vehicle is available in US conformity.

Cars over 25 don't need FMVSS that r required for newer vehicles

He would have to if he wanted to register it.

If he wanted to drive it as a foreigner visiting he can get a visitor permit for the car.

You must have a foreign passport to do this to my understanding but I could be wrong.

If you want to leave the car here and title and register it... You would have to get a letter of conformity from the manufacturer and if it does not confirm... utilize the ici registered importer
