Random missing, condensation in tank ?

I know very little about injectors but how do they actually fail? and in light of that is it worth just removing all 12 (well the other 10) and having them cleaned? like I know people remove them and send them to F1 in Naples, FL to have them 'serviced'. Anyway fixed and done so enjoy

 

I seem to remember crossing the 550's injectors to a fairly common Bosch. Did you check the cross reference thread?

In addition I was working on upgraded injectors when life got in the way, LOL. For my own 550 I was going to try a set of Denso pink injectors (P/N: 23250-20030) which have the same output rating (255 cc/min) and are an EV-6 style with a 12 hole nozzle which provides extremely fine atomization vs the 4 hole OEM Bosch injectors which produce more of a stream than a mist. The Bosch were designed to squirt two streams that would hit the two intake valves and atomize from the heat, while the Denso's output would already be atomized. I procured the injectors and had adapters made for the fuel rails as they were slightly shorter than the OEM injectors, so all that was left was to try them out. I was hoping for lower emissions & possibly more power, but that project was stillborn.

Fuel Injection Corp in Tracy California can take those injectors, cut the plastic top off and insert all new internals. They then recast the top in any color you like. No need to buy replacements.

Plus @Mirek it is good that your love affair with your 456 is so strong because it feels like you are one of a very small elite group of us that really does know your car so intimately that it would be an absolute shame for its sale to ever be prior to your inability to operate an automobile!

The traditional "100LL" is a "low-lead" Av gas. Very clean product and quite stable for long storage cycles. As John says, it's not compatible with catalytic converters though. Some airports may now have the replacement "UL94", which is an unleaded super premium Av gas. Equivalent to an automotive octane rating of 99. All of these are ethanol free of course...

BTW - Iso-Heet is the fuel dryer product to use if you suspect water contamination. It takes the water into solution and burns it in the combustion cycle. We grew up using this regularly in the winter before fuel began to contain 10% ethanol - which takes care of the water problem short term. The problem with any of these long term is phase separation, where the water comes out of solution and concentrates again in the bottom of the tank. The other problem is that ethanol is a solvent and an oxidizer. Always best if you can keep from using anything containing ethanol...
