Im not sure what point I am missing as I have said multiple times I acknowledge of the existance of people who have an ironic view of condition. And who have an ignorant view that mileage equates to condition directly. They may mistake that its like a Rokex new in a box. The Rolex isnt deteriorating as car does as it sits. Even the watch would need to be completely taken apart for it to reliably work but nothing compared to a super complex automotive machine, put together with rubber gaskets, bishings and seals everywhere that deteriorate as parts need lubrication and cycling.
Anyone that thinks a 4 mile F40 is perfect mechanically, is certainly not likelt a mechanic! It would be beyond the probable that such a would be a mess and massive trouble if anyone wanted to actually start driving it regularly as you would a new car. You would need to have taken most major components of the car apart multiple times in the history of owning the car.
Such a car is being attempted to be mothballed but not sold or preparedto anyone who would drive it. Why anyone would want to buy something you could not drive is beyond my comprehension. There are people out there who speculate on such "assets" in this way. And I have nothing in common with such a person. Such a people are not doing the collector car market any favors as people who value the ODO statement are landlocking and preventing even proper usage without ironic devaluation. I cant imagine a conversation a dinner table with such a person.

The last time I saw it, summer of last year 1848,
Every view is personal and your view as Ironic and Ignorant are valid as this is your personal view and as I have said many time's the view of many, but please don't over complex the working of the market. I have no more maintenance costs on my low mileage cars as I do my higher mileage cars... maybe a set of tyres,, but nothing else so I totally understand the running costs of each option. Some of my closest friends are asset and fund managers, with out these players in the market it would be in my view a shame, as they bring another layer and depth in an every evolving market, they provide instant liquidity if needed, and have helped 99 % of all owners of these cars in the values that they now achieve and will achieve over time.. so a very real positive..but again this is only my view.
Can you imagine not having market makers in a stock? This market is made up of endusers, dealers who hold stock, Brokers with a client base, and asset managers, the same for most assets, everyone know's the market they play in. You could argue the point that the top end Dealers who actually buy stock of these cars, are Fund managers as they actually buy and hold cars for very long periods of time some times years.

Alternatively, might have an entertaining chat with a stamp collector who mails himself letters so they get some miles and are used as Larry Stamp intended?

Back on track with some fact-based updates in the current market, the USA spec 86420 with 11,500 miles asks $2,600,000, which is strong in the market IMO considering that it's been mostly in static storage in the last 8 years or so and therefore will require major servicing rmsothebys.com

This compares with Eu spec 84169 with 1,606 km (998 miles) which has a no reserve estimate of $2,750,000 - $3,250,000, IMO the lower end of that estimate is lower than I would have expected to be sought with these miles rmsothebys.com

With 84169 having spent 25 years in Japan I would question:
    a) Does it have the original warranty/service book in the wallet?
    b) Does it have a verified service record covering that period?

86420 has “minor” accident history listed on both carfax and autocheck too.

The lower end of that range (plus fees) is in line with other EU spec cars with similar mileage that have sold recently, and over the past 12-18 months... If anything, I'd say the high estimate (plus fees) reflects some, um, abundant optimism.

Bid to $1.8m USD. IA does not reveal whether cars met reserve or not, but if this did, it sold for $1,845,000 including premium.

The ask was 2.75 when it was displayed at Scottsdale auction week, so they are caving somewhat so far.

If I remember correctly, the RM rep told me this had something to do with the front bumper and/or splitter getting ripped off on the highway, or something along those lines.

    and.....was it stolen?
maybe i am wrong, but every time i see a car coming from long term japanese ownership i suspect it of being stolen in the early 90's

The question is begged, do the original parts come with the car?

I wondered that about the fake LM that was recently listed. I’d imagine nothing is included when the seller can’t be bothered to state it, although I bought an alloy jaguar xk recently that came with all of the original stuff that had been swapped off for racing and the seller didn’t bother to mention it ($30k in value) so who knows.

The black car is definitely a project. Could be fun though…

We've closed on 2 F40s this month both of which recorded numbers right within the scope of your analysis, this time I'm not at liberty to post these Private Treaty sales numbers publicly, but it's worth knowing the market analysis remains an accurate reflection of private sales.

The good news is nowadays there are so many resources for full F40 restorations, Ferrari Classiche, Michelotto etc.

79922 is an interesting F40 being one of the Michelotto GT cars and thus could be a candidate for track use of historic racing, but looking at the images it appears to me to be a restoration project.
