I have been 'seriously following' F1 since 1952 when I was in law school, have attended in person F1 races in U.S., Great Britain, France, Italy, Monaco, Belgium, Netherlands. Years ago I held an F.I.A. License for Competitor (Entrant) and Driver for all F.I.A. events and raced a TR3 and a Porsche Super 90 in the U.S. and France.

While it is certainly true that money makes the world go round, equally that one cannot race without money and lots of it, for less well-endowed teams that have no real hope of winning, I truly believe that competing is what makes them go.

Don't confuse amateur racing, in which I also took part, and F1.
Club racing is small budget, and you can stop any time.
F1 is an industry with massive investments, big budgets and the livelihood of hundreds of staff in each team.
Those who manage these teams have to run them as businesses and look after their share of the money.
Putting an 11th team on the grid would lower what each team would receive.
They want compensation for their loss, and $200M won't do.

That is the individual team's issue and not the FOM's.

In a recent article with Martin Brundle he made the point that is more about the FOM getting the next Concorde Agreement agreed to with everyone.

Exactly, FOM knows that its future revenue are not going to increase enough to satisfy 11 teams, and that the existing 10 teams risk losing out. A battle with the teams is to be avoided, so FOM prefers to work with them.
    It's common sense really.

Or, look at them to remind them that they agreed to the current terms and should be fortunate that this is only about adding 1 team, not 2. If they don't like it they can leave/sell as there were at least 3 other teams trying to enter in addition to Andretti.

Potentially going to war against 10 business partners, just to please an outsider?
For FOM (Liberty) it wouldn't make sense. Andretti isn't worth the aggravation.

I see it very differently. FOM exists to run a business side of F1. The teams are not their partners. They are necessary to the point of a required field size guarantee with the tracks but teams can, and do, come and go. The FOM does not need to be letting the tail (teams) wag the dog. This isn't just about Andretti but any team that is capable of being part of F1 up to to the Concorde Agreements team count limit.

FOM clearly has support with the 10 teams. As you said common sense. Ben Andretti-Escort-Sulayem forgot to get consensus before starting a major project. The lack of common sense is on the FIA. F1 was not broken so why attempt to fix it. Its nothing to do with the US market either. They have 3 races. So what is lacking.........nothing at all. Clearly F1 fans are happy in the US and attend races. The lack of a US driver is not an FIA problem at all. The US has almost 10% of the races now. Andretti and his hedge fund backers attempted to 'time' the market - buy a team quickly, enjoy a large boost in 'value' and pursue sponsors. His clumsy attempt at all this show what his intentions were. 3 locations to manage 2 cars etc etc. I wonder if the other parties who applied were actually better sorted. We shall never know.

The door is open for 2028 so the next moves are on Andretti. The longer this goes, the farther away Cadillac becomes. They have said zero for good reason. There is no entry and they arent planning any major moves. Rumors are Cadillac was pleased this was delayed. GM is not a large capitalized maker at 45Bil$ valuation with problems in most sectors and including E-cars. GM largest market is China lol. What does F1 give them that Le Mans /IMSA etc does not. You do not need F1 to develop E-or even hybrid drive trains. Toyota is the proof.

Now this. Rather see a PU being tested. SO he built a place that will allow him to be 80% Alpine initially................

Andretti Global has sent a strong signal to the Formula 1 organisation by revealing the first images of the new US HQ where its Andretti Cadillac team will be based.

Andretti is like someone who builds a garage, then buys a car before even obtaining his driving licence.

Their 'business model' as broadcast is chaotic. Multi continent production. No PU at all sourced, built or contracted etc. Failed team buys etc etc. I do not take them seriously yet. Incoherent.

I think having shops in 2 countries is really inefficient. One has to lead.

I hope Andretti has plans for WEC or LeMans, otherwise what's the point? I've heard rumors of Andretti and F2 and/or F3 but I don't think there will be any ROI.

Andretti is also in Formula E which is mostly European. WEC? Why not and it is definitely Eurocentric.

Noise about Alpine F1 being receptive to offers but they want their engine operation to be used as a condition of any sale. At what point of being end of the grid with no real positive prospects does Renault decide to give up?

Helmut floating that RB/Alpha Tauri could be susceptible to offers.

I still want to see 2 more teams on the grid so there are 4 more seats available to the waiting talent. But, if Andretti can get t the grid by way of one of the current teams that that may be their easiest path.

I cannot see Cadillac (GM in fact) advancing forever in the dark and investing lots of money designing a specific type of engine for F1 without knowing if Andretti will be allowed to join in the end. They may already have started preliminary studies, but 20 months from kickoff, nothing has been decided yet. I am wondering what the GM management makes of this uncomfortable situation.

He needs to stop spending and save pennies for the fee after next Concorde is passed!!

Possibly this new facility will support this effort:

Andretti planning F2 and F3 entries to promote US talent to F1 team
Andretti Global is planning to enter FIA Formula 2 and Formula 3 in order to create a talent ladder to help feed its Formula 1 team with American drivers.

Andretti is launching his assault on F1. If he has to beat them in the junior leages first, he'll take that approach. At least two F1 teams will be actively looking for buyers before this season is over. Like real estate and stocks, the prices always peak before the fall. When Andretti does buy a team, it will be at a much lower price than the teams imagine they are worth today.
