In the market for a 458 spider in resale red with a clean history and I have a short list of essential options, camera, parking sensor, wheel shift lights and maybe front lift or not as I'm finding the latter is kinda rare but it would be nice to have here. I plan to drive the hell out of it so a somewhat "driver" is fine.

Modern supposedly reliable Ferrari plenty for sale shouldn't be that hard right? Issue is I'm in Michigan and there isn't exactly an abundance of them for sale anywhere nearby so what does that mean I'm flying out to the coasts to look at cars on weekdays? That doesn't really work for my schedule and while I know the basics I'm not a mechanic or body work guy so it's not like I can really determine much myself I have to set up PPI's with no local resources and being short on time. I bought my Cali locally it wasn't even what I necessarily wanted but it all just worked out perfect so I bought it knowing I would upgrade one day which is now, but spending 100k on a local California isn't the same thing as finding the right 458 across the country.

What do you guys think? Is it worth it to consult with a broker for a non rare car and is there any reason I would choose a specific broker over another? Is there something that a broker would do for me besides inspections of state and arrange logistics for cars I can just find in classified listings myself? Please excuse my ignorance to all this...

Thank you sincerely for any input fellas

Depends how much they'd want. The search is the fun part IMHO.

my first f car. nervous. no past history. did i mention nervous? used broker. deal was SMOOTH. ironically the broker knew the car and sold it to the seller. it ALL depends on WHO the broker is. They're a dime a dozen. Ask for referrals and references. They know about more cars than we know. He found me MY PERFECT car. Had a PPI, deal done, money wired, never saw it in person and was NERVOUS as hell....but all worked out. Has won multiple Patino's since under my ownership. Very happy. Pick the right one, and you'll be happy.

Buy the seller, not the car. Put the word out. Network here and other places. There are a few people here on FerrariChat that I would a car from sight unseen, just because I know them.

For your first, yes, I would recommend it… There’s a lot of possible issues you’ll likely be unaware of - that a good broker would point out.

For purchase of your second, you’ll hopefully be wise enough to know what to look at when evaluating.

I was just going to point out Mike at Yellow Compass, he's been providing that service on here for years and I've never seen complaints about him.
And he even provided you his contact details above, lol.

Wouldn't make this is a determining factor, but one thing in the pro column for a broker - if they're good, you'll have access to cars that are never listed

Not a bad idea, but like most things there are good ones and bad ones. My particular past history with buying brokered cars is alot of brokers know next to nothing about the cars. They have never laid eyes on them, never ran them through an inspection....not much better than just reading an ad.

One particular time, the car was so misrepresented that it didn't make it through the first half hour of a PPI before the inspector and I jointly decided it was a turd and just called it a day. And the broker was an "expert" in the brand.

On the selling side, I understand why someone would use a broker. I had discussions with Mike about selling one of my cars last year (but the prospective buyer and I did not see eye-to-eye so I pulled back, no issue with Mike).
