Driving in rain?

The only problem with driving your Ferrari in the rain is :
1. Really wide tires and huge puddles... dont mix well....so go slow.
2. It's a PITA to dry the car ... and then shine it up again.

out of almost 30 years of owning and driving Ferrari's the only rain related issue I ever had was with my first Ferrari an 85 308gts QV. I got caught in a torrential rain storm here in Atlanta - inside the City. those that know Atlanta will understand that it does not take much to turn the roads into streams... on this day it was a lake. just driving on the streets - slowly, i had to go through multiple large puddles... and that caused the brake failure warning light to go on... which ultimately meant I needed a new proportional valve ... which is located right on the bottom of the car under the spare tire... it was soaked and started to rust... it was so wet that it was completing the circuit to turn on the light. Never had any brake issues... but it looks scary when it says BRAKE FAILURE... and both my 308 and 328 leaked from the top of the A pillar... the 308 in heavy rain would leak in the footwell as well...never found out how ...

My ECU needed about 2,000 miles to adapt to exhaust and intake changes,and it was a wet winter,so I drove and drove. But it was too much work to clean up the car at the end,so I don't do it any more.

That’s the only reason I prefer not to drive mine in the rain. I’ve done it in the past, will do it in the future, but the Ferrari is definitely not the car I go for if it’s wet weather. No other reason but that.

 

I don't weld and had to have some welding done on the 97 Land Cruiser I was restoring to be my daily driver, was supposed to take a week ended up taking 6....of course.

Daily drove the 2010 Cali in horrendous Michigan "spring" weather, didn't have a single issue it actually did really well.

 

The car specifically has a "Wet Mode" because Ferrari wants you to drive it in the rain. It put's hair on its chest, just like taking it to the track

 

I didn’t make it an hour after the dealer dropped it off from service. The short drive was worth it.

Heck, I haven't even drove my new truck in the rain yet……lol. If you are a details guy you won’t drive your Ferrari in the rain. I work under 1,000 watt halogens when working on paint. The difference between rain driven and not driven in the rain vehicles is huge. It isn’t clean water out of a garden hose. It is like your paint being mildy sandblasted.

 

You not the only one mate who have stressed over that

 

I've driven both my 458 Spider and my 355 GTS in rain- the 458 was flawless- The 355 freaked out a bit but that was at 75mph in a downpour on a drenched toll road - it threw a bunch of lights and codes but corrected- the re-detailing is half the fun- but a pain I agree- My 458 is black but to @DrewH point it does take its toll- My attitude is it rains in Italy and in Colorado if you never drive with a chance of rain you will never drive- it literally rains every flippin day here during spring and summer Issue here is rain turning to hail so have to be careful and have a plan- and good detail supplies
