    Hi Forum,
I'm trying to troubleshoot an F1 360 that will randomly, "gently" shut off within the first 10 minutes of driving on occasion. My question for you is, have anyone of you with a 360 or F430 w/manual gearbox experienced this problem? The last time it happened, I immediately scanned the engine for codes with my Foxwell OBD2 scanner and the codes were
P0807 "Clutch Position sensor circuit Low"
and also P0806 "Clutch Position sensor circuit Range/Performance"

Is this car really shutting down because it needs the clutch position sensor replaced? Or a new clutch?

I don't believe you will ever get these two codes on the manual gearbox version of the car because those don't have a Clutch Position sensor.

But my original question remains, do your manual gearbox 360 or F430 cars ever shut off like this?
Could it be an alternator or fuel pump issue? Or even the kill switch?
If enough people with manual gearbox cars can confirm it has happened to theirs as well, I will believe it could be caused by more than just an F1 system that needs service.

No clue, but if you have a code telling you a sensor is bad, that would be my first thing to check and replace. Maybe if that sensor is not working, it doesn't know what position the clutch is in exactly, and that is causing it to stall? I really don't know, but just a thought. Keep us updated.

Well, I figure there must be plenty of manual transmission 360 owners that can answer if they have ever had a complete shutoff issue or not. This way I think I can say more definitively that it is just the F1 Transmission that needs some new parts including the clutch and F1 sensor, or whether I should also investigate or replace something else in the vehicle.

Mike I know you're going to be waiting for a manual 360 owners to chime in but I doubt very much if you're going to find any car that normally shuts off while you're driving and people think that's okay I think your issue is related to a loose connection to the clutch position sensor or the sensor itself or possibly the clutch is pretty worn

The TCU is is programmed to when It does not know what the clutch position is it will shut down the engine and open the clutch immediately

Do you see any lights before the engine shuts off any error warning

Since the car does run normally after that time I would bet that it's some type of bad connection

I would check your clutch life wipe out the codes and see what comes back

    Never had a shutdown in my 3-pedal 2002 360. I bought it in 2012.

By “shut off”, do you mean the engine or the entire electrical system?

If the entire car, then yes, the battery cutoff switch has been known to fail, but I don’t know if this happens after a certain time period or whether it is “gentle”. I can’t see how a gearbox issue would cause a complete electrical failure.

Does the car come back to life/restart after a certain time period? Do you have to recharge the battery?

I am assuming all electrical items , radio , lights all work and engine just shuts off ..

You are correct if a total electrical outage ..no radio, lights etc ..then not what I was suggesting above .. my thought is only that the engine will shut down and not restart

Never, ever, has my 360 ever shut down while driving it. (OEM manual 99 euro)

What exactly happens? Does the engine stop or does everything go blank and no power whatsoever? If the latter please change your battery. I'd suspect a bad cell shorting out everything. Had something like it waaay back in my 924.

This is confirming what I thought. The issue is with the clutch position sensor as indicated by the codes for an F1 car.
I’m going to replace the sensor and the entire clutch including flywheel, pressure plate and clutch disc. (And also get the Hill Engineering clutch parts everyone is using now) Will keep this thread updated after the work is performed.
I really do love the car and will probably do a manual transmission conversion of its transmission next year.

    thanks for sharing your thoughts!
