No personal experience but top gear did a special where they toured through the south of France, Italy and Switzerland looking for the ultimate roads and drove super cars, maybe take a look at that episode? From memory there were some really good roads but the popular ones had tourists and cyclists using them so not so great for driving experience.

Yes last time was 18 months ago. Schwarzwald (German side of the Rhine) and the Rhine valley themselves are spectacular. Switzerland is god's gift to petrolheads--spend as much time as you can there, stay in the smallest towns you can find, and avoid the highways. While the northeast is a bit dull, the rest is sublime. How long do you have? What time of year are you going? Some passes stay closed for almost half the year.

Thanks Mat. Probably early September but have to clear out a health issue here at home prior to booking. Thanks, Keith

That's the best time of year to go. I highly recommend doing a lap of Switzerland if you can. Apologies, in my previous post I should have said northwest, not northeast.

If this trip is still "in", do not forget to free two or three days for Strasbourg herself. But beware: my grandmother used to say that it is a dangerous city for those who like to eat, because you'll take a pound a day. I do love Strasbourg indeed.
At the very least, have a dinner in "La Maison Kammerzell" (ask for the top floor) but honestly, for someone who likes good food, Strasbourg is a treat.
