Pretty pictures.......going up in flames (in a good way!) So why is the Connie such a flamethrower? Must be related to some characteristic of the engines (R-3350 radials).....maybe the 'jet stacks'?
For once, glad to see a 16-year-old thread revived. My father had an assignment to fly EC-121Ds at McClellan AFB in 1961, but it got changed to flying satellites at LAAFB instead. That was why he eventually retired as a full colonel.
Funny note on cabin size. There is a Connie at Museum of the United States Air Force (@ Wright-Pat). The cabin has plexiglas walls along both sides of the aisle. There is an entry gate before you get to the stairs leading up to the door that is the same width as the plexiglas walls. Sign at the gate says if you can't fit through here you can't get on the plane.
The Connie is up at Oshkosh this week along with a U2 on the ground, DC8-72, OV10A, a newly restored P38 and P47 and 100's of other warbirds. Let the Pebble Peach or aircraft Concours begin. The level these are getting to is amazing. They are as bad if not worse than the car guys when it comes to super accuracy.
What a lineup! Some friends invited me to go with them next year...really hope to see a Constellation fly in person then.
