I run 20-21 psi on stock turbos.......... and I aint even leaning on them.
I just bought a CPO 458 and they pulled the vacuum lines at the same time the CPO inspection was done.
Well, this is very different. The 991.1 GT3 was recalled and Porsche offered 10/100k warranty. To compare that to the turbos on the 488 is like saying a rotten egg is the same as overcooked omelet. Sorry, no dice.
I certainly agree whole hardily having had many, many Porches since 72. Sold my last a few yrs. back, a 65 356. It was a patients car that I promised I would care for it as he did for so long. I almost bought that GT3 2015 a few yrs back ,but because of the potential engine issues decided to go with the 15 458. It's been a very good car. I passed on the 16 488 as did not want a turbo car and liked the fact the 458 had so many long standing Ferrari attributes.
I know I give you guys that mod your cars and work on them and change stuff etc a lot of sh*t but it is truly admirable and impressive how you guys can say things like, I’ll just change the turbos and upgrade and go bigger and add this and add that… I mean, I won’t even allow the TFT knobs to be in any position other than straight up and won’t even touch any buttons with my fingers. (Use a microfiber) I won’t touch the paint or glass with my hands. Maybe I’m just insane Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat

When you have to fart do you pull over and get out of the car? If not that inaugural fart on the seat must have been traumatic. Just kidding of course and all in good fun.
Yes, I would explode internally before I’d fart in my car. And no need to say just kidding, the more offensive, the better. You can say ANYTHING. The only thing that offends me are people that get offended. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
And Mandalay is correct as usual. I at least expected some kind of push back but Ferrari was "Yep covered, no problem, we'll take care of it".
Waiting for turbos to arrive and started looking at the factory intakes. Was shocked to see how collapsed they were in several sections and why they would use corrugated intake boots. Measured 1.7” in one section while aftermarket ones were 2.75” with no choke points. Opposite side was also necked down. If this was naturally aspirated motor this would be even worse….thankfully boost will help. Regardless no reason to make the turbos work harder and since Ferrari controls them from torque loading….unsure why, other than to save costs. Ordered some aftermarket tubes FS but didn’t like that they were aluminum so wrapped them hoping to keep IATs down. Also the plastic factory ones are molded and look like they could be prone to leaks in the future. Cost savings? This car has a msrp in the $300's why would they cheap out on something so vital to the cars performance. That doesn't make any sense. Unbelievable. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Maybe it is not vital to the car's performance and the turbos, running at crazy high RPMs, get plenty of air with smaller tubes? At some point, making the tubes bigger is pointless, I just don't know what that point is. Maybe Ferrari does?
I'm sure Ferrari has no idea what is best for function and what materials are best to use and in what size.... the aftermarket guys definitely know more and make better stuff. Really really good to just remove stuff ferrari puts in their cars and replace with other parts. exhaust, wheels, suspension, turbos, intakes, different style body panels, radio, speakers, ... it's all just trash that Ferrari put no thought into. Get rid of it and the car will be perfect
hard charge pipes remove the flatspots and bulges from the factory piping which make it more efficient..... and more importantly makes the system more reliable from blow outs
Along with that, just change the badge from a prancing horse to "Fiat" and change the Ferrari on the engine sill to "Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino" Then it'll not only be perfect, but just better.
Take a deep breathe ... nobody is saying your beloved Ferrari engineers are idiots. There are many of reasons engineers make these choices, cost, serviceability, profitability, however my point was it was not performance. Don't hate the facts but there is ZERO performance benefit to making pinch spots on the pressure side of the turbo. It only increases backpressure and makes the turbos work harder. Now there is a point in which too large can reduce velocity in a naturally aspirated engine but in forced induction that is never the case. Here is something you may consider ......... Aftermarket Parts: Exhaust - Weight reduction, better flow and less backpressure and reduced engine bay heat. (Factory exhaust is merely to meet emissions and noise standards) Wheels - Lighter, less rotating mass, better balanced and far more durable that die cast wheels on the road. Suspension - If this were the case every race car would be running stock suspension. (Most do it for the look but it does have many performance and handling benefits) Bodywork - Mostly aesthetic but some are functional in directing air to brakes and providing greater downforce at speed. Stereo/Speakers - Lets face it nobody buys a Ferrari for the awesome sound system ...lol So if what what you are eluding to was actually true there would be no market demand and therefor no supply.
- exhaust- reducing backpressure and increasing flow is BAD for how the engine is designed- it’s designed in conjunction with the exhaust for optimal performance. And Ferrari has always put tons of engineering into the sound and performance of their exhausts; not just to meet emissions and noise standards… that’s secondary. - less rotating mass and being lighter are BAD for how the car is designed in conjunction with stock springs resulting in a loss of optimal performance. - suspension - race cars ARE running on the spring built for that race car = stock. There are ZERO performance benefits to an aftermarket spring over the factory spring designed specifically in conjunction with the other suspension components. -Bodywork- the aftermarket kits are just trash and ugly AF- those widebody things or whatever and they absolutely do not improve cooling and function and/or downforce and aerodynamics— Ferrari has specifically optimized those vents and shapes and intakes for these purposes. Anything different is BAD - stereo and speakers-agree- who gives Fck- I’ve literally never once turned on the radio in any of my Ferraris— Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
