I hope you all had a great day today celebrating Anzac day. My girls normally march today on Anzac today and they were super excited to do it for the first time in Mackay. But with Nicole's cracked ribs, Caprice's bad/sore back and Aria's headaches they gave it a miss today and had an easy one at home. They will definitely march next year they said.
Yes the only mildly disappointing thing with the dawn service was the banging on about the indigenous soldiers and the - of course - welcome to country. But I wasn’t going to let that dampen the occasion. I let the traditional drizzle do that. Was still a large turnout and a nice service. I went to the Dawn service at Dayboro, as the service was about to start, the usual respectful silence fell over the crowd and what did we hear....... a child's voice saying " We like to acknowledge the traditional etc, etc, blah, blah," a murmur went across the crowd, and I thought to myself,,,,,,,, really??? At this moment, on this day, you have to stoop to this garbage,........again. Show some respect.

They’ll let any looser and their woeful offspring in as a member there. Typical Melbourne. Wouldn’t happen at the Adelaide Oval. Any member whom wouldn’t stand for the anthem would - quite rightly - be thrown off the top tier into the Torrens.
They went with songs to the battle, they were young, Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow, They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted, They fell with their faces to the foe. They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.

Mel and I attended the ANZAC Day service at the Phaleron Commonwealth War Cemetery in Athens. Very moving experience, about 2000 graves, 1300 of which are ANZACS. Well worth visiting if you’re in Athens. Incredible to think what these men went through. One of the headstones was of a RAF Squadron leader aged 22. What do 22 year olds do these days ….
