Assuming that I have access to the mounting brackets for the components, and the AC compressor, condenser, dryer, etc., that would otherwise be in an AC Dino, is it possible to do a clean, or relatively clean, AC installation in a non-AC Dino? The dash vent access looks like it should work OK with only 2 vents rather than 3. I know that the temp control and the fan switch will probably have to be mounted elsewhere.

Has anyone here done it or had it done? If so, how did you do it?

    Thanks -
    Mark

Having owned a Dino gt (without AC) my suggestion is to do what I did... buy an F430. :)

Mark - I would love to see you do it, then have you show me how.

By the way, the right fuel tank is different on A/C cars. The rest of the installation is straight forward, I would assume, but tedious. You will have to have the dash out, run lines along the rocker panels, change some brackets on the pulley-end of the engine, and install the evaporator and condensor. Sounds like a weekend project !

Here are the components that go into the A/C system; I've found reasonable priced upgrades to the condensor, compressor, and dryer. The missing parts from the image are the 3 bracket/mounting parts for the compressor.

i did not go out to the garage to check this but don't you have to replace the crank pulley? no groove for an AC belt....?

Personally, not interested and not done before. However, my friend who runs a vintage F shop nearby fabricated (adapted) A/C just for Dino from a stock, Japanese, A/C unit with modifications and custom made brackets, etc. to fit Dino. I saw one couple years ago and it was quite nice, not taking up a whole lot of space. Was very reliable and blasted freezing, cold air. Don't recall the exact price, but was not peanuts. w/ smiles Jimmy

Do you know for a fact that the A/C in a Dino works well enough to bother with?
One owner told me your feet are cool but the rest of you still bakes.

Also, the stock York piston-type compressor is NOT the way to go-- most Pantera owners replace those with rotary-types that draw much less power and are quiet.

Correct, the roto-loc form factor is the way to go and the correct TCCI model fits AND is a roto.

The feet should not be cold as that is not wherethe A/C evap outlet is. When I installed this same unit in my 1972 Maserati Bora it was amazing. Many thanks to the Bora guys for turning me onto it.

Are there electric compressor units that can be located elsewhere, that is, outside the engine bay? For example, an electric compressor could be situated forward of the foot well up where the brake line manifold/failure switch is located. There is a great deal of room forward of the cabin to place a compressor.

Depending upon current draw (wattage), the existing alternator may suffice, or a beefed-up unit can be installed with a great deal less hassle than installing a pulley-driven compressor.

And it can be removed easier.

Bud Bennett who owns RM Motorsport in Wixon Michigan may be who you need http://www.rmmotorsports.com/about.htm . His team are accomplished racers, racecar and vehicle restorers. They just finished and raced the Tyrell 6-wheeler and built and engineered the Tomahawk Concept when I was at Daimler. No project too small or too big. They are the ones to make your car have "ice cold" A/C, have it hidden, engineered to be bolt in, be reverseable and probably make your car faster and run cooler! They do everything in house, know which parts are correct etc etc. They will exceed your expectations and be reasonable in cost. They build the fastest 962's, highest performance Cosworth V8's and Can Am cars. They'd love a side project like this just because they can. They are friendly and never arrogant.

Hello, we need some help, we have gathered most ac parts to install AC in the non AC Dino.

We need as much info as possible on what fits where, where do you mount the Evaporator box, what do you remove? is any cutting / changing needed in that area?
all info, technical drawings, photos are welcome.

    Hello Ludo,
    I am glad you posted.
One thing that comes to mind maybe, the passenger floor space might be reduced.
    Possibly a different footwell.

    Regards, Alberto
