The monkeys who took apart my car for a repaint 20 odd years ago have bodged a number of minor fittings. The door latch being one item I am not sure on. The hole in the images with the screwdriver pointing to it has grinding marks on the outside, but it was never the same as the opposite "countersunk" hole (the chrome plated cover plate screws threw these holes).
Can anyone confirm how this hole should be originally.

That's just a mistake in the drawing. The hole is original and has been pressed through from the back as can be seen in my not too sharp image.

Thank you for offering, but I have found this image on the internet which clearly shows the raised bump on the left, which has been ground off on mine.
But I now can't understand how the chrome cover plate would fit nicely without grinding off this raised bump.

Ive seen the latches like that before and the trim screw threads into the door shell rather than the latch itself.
