F#$!. This thread just really tore me apart now. I know what you guys are both saying - that sound. i know. I used to putter around in a starlight pipe and catless 430 and i get it. It "feels" so much faster. BTW, i know that back pressure doesn't create torque - the opposite is true.

The question is how much "worse' will the sound experience be with just a catback like a KLINE?

Downside 1… money spent? This is a Ferrari man….

Downside 2…. CEL? You just get a Capristo OBD Wizard and stick it in your OBD port and forget about it. Issue solved.

Downside 3… impact on power warranty… yes it will impact your power warranty. I personally didn’t care.

Upside: Total enjoyment of the car and feeling like you’re in a Ferrari

I’m sorry, but none of you have gotten the full Ferrari experience until you’ve taken the cats off. These motors are so unbelievably restricted from the factory and the EPA.

Accelerating on on ramps and doing highway pulls on open road and then easing off the gas once you cross 90mph like 99% of you guys do on your low mileage 458’s… come on now. My 458 has 15,000 track miles. My level of enjoyment was amplified by 100% when i took the cats off.

There is nothing like a NA Ferrari V8 at full chat unrestricted by EPA add on crap like cats. Once you take them off, only then can you understand Enzo’s passion. If you take them off and decide you don’t like it, then you should just sell your Ferrari and go buy something else.

You get an "A" for passion my friend. I agree with everything you said - in principal, lol. A true Ferrari purist! I love it!

First stop focusing on Kline. The sound sucks and makes the 458 sound like a Mclaren (not a good thing).

As far as a cat back only system goes it’s not worth it unless you do the cats.

Had to chime in after reading this. I installed 200 cell cat and FI exhaust 2 yrs ago. He is 100% correct that it increases your enjoyment 10x after the cats are removed. It feels faster. No loss of torque. It sounds GODLY. Any car meet your car sounds the best. People want to drive behind you just to hear your unworldly exhaust. You set off car alarms in parking garage with cold start. Your kid and dog know you are coming home from a mile away. You just feel like a total badass driving in a Ferrari with full exhaust mod.

And there is NO CEL if u get 200 cell cat. Minimal sound difference between 200 vs test pipe. DO IT. The longer you wait the more you are missing out on how your Ferrari was meant to sound like.

The 200 cell cats are coated metal filters, them breaking apart and falling into the engine would not happen. OEM cats are usually platinum which is brittle and break apart.

Haven't seen this issue on 458s, but the factory cats in the F430 headers usually break apart and fall backwards into the engine.

I did notice my car rev faster with the 200 cell cats and slight better tone. Overall I am happy with the purchase.

On another note, there is no reason to over spend on brand name high flow cats in my opinion....all good brands use the HJS filters. Any pipes with those filters will work:

Dude, I had you in my gunsights with the 458 spider and would’ve surely upped your number (as impressive as it is) in a year or two. But, the Challenge EVO awaits and I will retire the 458 from active track duty. It’ll now be like a horse in pasture (though a Porsche guy at the gym is very interested, we’ll see).

I run 200 cell cats and Kline catback which is an outstanding setup if you don’t want too loud, and get a little more performance out if it. Sound is fantastic and not obnoxiously loud, and also added a tune which helped on the pops and burbles and, but not much else.

Mine has not been throwing codes with the 200 cell cats, which is a great compromise if you’re concerned about that. At 45,000 miles now, I long ago gave up worrying about anything this car throws at me (which, other than fun, hasn’t been much). Been almost too fun.

Qs for guys w 200 cell HJS based cats - does everyone avoid a CEL with this spec, or is it some do some don't? Also, do any of you know of your car will set the emissions readiness monitors as complete? ( separate issue from not having a CEL). That's what's needed for my local OBD based emissions testing, and I'm not willing to have another car that requires swapping parts out every time emissions is due.

Passed OBD based emission every time with the 200 cell cats. No CEL ever. Unsure if It would pass CO2 emission though.

Does anyone have experience with CA smog check on 200 cel cats in 458/speciale? Would it pass visual inspection? Would anything be detectable from the obd?

    what about tunes?

That is simply not true. It’s dealer dependent. I have 200 cell cats and have had no issues on getting and maintaining my Power15 warranty.

    no
    dealer has no input whatsoever
Ferrari NA and then Ferrari SpA
You cannot have a Power15 warranty and a modified car
If and when you submit a claim, you will be denied
The dealer took your money for a Power15 warranty that is void
Perhaps you should find another dealer

The dealer put the exhaust on…..do you have firsthand experience with a modified car (exhaust) that the dealer installed, then inspected and certified, and a denied claim?

We can help with the cel issue, as well as bump the power, add burbles and or flames if you’d like :)
