No driver touches the barrier on purpose as there is no upside. That said the closer you get to the barrier the greater the amount the corner is straightened and therefore the faster you can go. All of the drivers aim to come as close as possible to the barriers and realistically NONE get away without a brush here and there. When this does happen there is always the risk of damage and no two hits are the same. Sometimes a pretty hefty hit does no damage while another light brush results in a puncture or a damaged wheel. We are talking about placing a sliding racing car to within millimeters of accuracy hundreds of times over with very challenging visibility. I find it amazing there are not more incidents.

Technically, is touching the barriers not "going over track limits" ?

I think the stewards should look into that . ;)

I don't think so imo. The barriers are like the white line of the track that literally no one can go over really.

    I was being facetious.

Those pesky stewards are so eager to dish out penalties, these days ... :p

De la Rosa: Stroll on the brink of an 'explosion of talent’

Lance Stroll seems to be going nowhere fast in his Formula 1 career, but Aston Martin brand ambassador Pedro de la Rosa believes it’s only “a matter of time” before the sport sees an “explosion” of the Canadian’s talent.

Where did this sudden infusion of talent come from, or has Lance been holding back all this time? Playing the long game he is.

Obsequious compliments at A-M often indicate impending termination. Say "Good-bye" Pedro.

Lance Stroll finished in the points in Canada (7th), after a steady drive.

Unlike many other drivers Stroll made no mistakes and collected valuable points for the team.

Both Stroll and Alonso had clean and largely uneventful races. No mean feat given the incredibly difficult conditions that caught out many of the other top drivers and Logan Sargent :D

AM does not look like a contender for podia this season. Best of the rest?
