I'm not sure why you keep referencing McLaren as that is irrelevant, we are discussing the 296. Fact is, this is the latest car from "the" top tier auto mnfr and the entertainment system is a fail. Just because a car is fast doesn't give it a pass to be awful everywhere else.

In regards to my view, I see that I'm in the majority as so many are for sale and new cars are sitting in the back of dealerships. Let's not be so jaded to believe these cars are without fault. I'm not tied to any mnfr although I've had way more Ferraris than any other brand and it's not a small number.

Once again, these are street cars meant to be used regularly and as such the entire experience needs to be right. That's not the case here but clearly this car is more special to you than to me.

I reference Mclaren as that is the closet competitor in the supercar arena. I guess we will disagree as I think that the ability to change radio stations is easier in the 296 than in the other cars in this class. I also think it is useless part of the car.

I’ve never once said these cars aren’t without fault and it’s pretty comical for you to even mention that. You do realize what this thread is about?!?!?

The car is clearly not for you and again, Ferrari won’t miss a beat or lose out on a single sale. So let’s return to topic since you decided to derail this thread with the UI

This thread is about the hybrid failures and the apprehension of people to follow through on their purchases and I've acknowledged other issues that are also being considered.

At this price point the car needs to be right. If you are happy with yours then maybe you'll hang on to to it for more than a few months. I bet you sell it before the years over and be on to the next shiny thing.

To your point, I don't think it's for me but I get suckered into all of these orders because I'm easily persuaded into buying **** I don't need or want.

That would probably be a very safe bet!!! You know me too well. :p (If the car still has issues when it returns it will be sooner rather than later.). Btw, that’s the problem with the hobby/addiction: all of our cars are things we don’t need or want (and my wife reminds me of that every time something new shows up).

And I think/hope you know, I wasn’t trying to be an ass or to offend. Just lively counter arguments.

For about $400k (slightly over) I'm getting a singular experience that I've never had the pleasure of having before. Changing radio stations easily (done that), cruise control (check), lane keep assist for naps (yawn, check), car braking by itself (check), sunroof/moonroof (check), touchscreen command obeyance (check on ipad and iphone, current AMG not).....Italian legendary supercar with looks, performance, growls, grunts, snarls and screams, plus heart pounding, mind blowing performance (not yet, incoming). Don't think I'll miss the other stuff, but I do admit the parking/surround doodads for this aging driver is a complete hoot. Never had any of that stuff since I started driving in 1978. Gotta have them cameras!

All good I guess I'm getting over all this new stuff and starting to consider cars like the 5999gto and TDF. Now these cars don't need radios.

Update: there is an internal leak. That's the reason for the empty tanks from the electric engine and the reason the car didn't go fully electric anymore. So nothing to do with the AC. Some pieces have to be replaced, I am getting worried as I have a Tour in the french Alps next week ...

How long did it take them to diagnose the source of the problem? I’m hoping they have mine narrowed down this week.

4 days, the know nothing at all. They have to be taken by hand like small children. Only online tutorials and tickets to be opened at the factory, this is why it takes so long. They were unable to change the oil from the electric clutch (I have the first 296 where the oil has to be changed as I am driving so much) so they had to wait for the Ferrari tutorial which did not work for 1 day ... 1 day lost for me.

You and I can start a support group!!! I wonder if our cars came off the assembly line with each other? Mine ends with 5082.

Mkraft? Any word on your diagnosis?

For the record, I do want a decent radio in my car, that's why I paid up for the upgraded audio system. But so long as I can figure it out, I'm fine with it. I do think it's slightly dumb that Ferrari put a touchscreen in for the passenger and didn't put it in the middle.

As for the McLaren UI, my 720 is mediocre, which is better than my 570S which was mediocre minus. Never cared in either car, so long as I could enjoy the car anyway.

My Aston has navigation graphics that look like they were drawn by crayon, but it works fine....not a worry.

Nothing yet. I was resisting all urges to call them and figured I’d give them until Thursday. Car was picked up last Tuesday so wed-fri and tue/wed will be 5 full days in service.

To make you feel better, it took 14 days to replace a faulty engine temp sensor in my Aston...got it back last Friday. Misery loves company, right?

Mine ends with 0094, I have an early bird. IMHO the problem is not the car (sometimes things break down), but the dealer ...

The upgraded audio system is just ok. My GTB with the upgrade is better than base car audio but still not state of the art or even close. I don't really care but it's disappointing.

Just got an update. The DC to DC converter failed which caused the DC to DC connection to melt. They are replacing the entire DC to DC converter as well as the connection. The converter is part of the high voltage system and they don’t know why it failed.

Now the bad news, The parts have to come from Italy and are on a “high priority warranty order”. It will take 2-3 weeks to get them (they said it’s been running closer to 3 weeks for other parts). I asked how complex it was to install and they said it is accessed from the rear wheel well and not too difficult.

In the meantime, I noticed that the alcantara was separated in the door panel and they are going to fix that while it is spending some quality time in service. (I’m assuming the Florida heat is no match for Italian glue). Here is a photo of what happened (happened on both door panels). Image Unavailable, Please Login

That’s is what I was told by dealer due to high or low voltage outages. Must unplug the wall charger and replug it again.

GOOD NEWS!! I got a call at 5pm that the parts came in, were installed and everything is working perfectly. They took it out for an extended test drive and everything was running correctly. Italy wanted them to hook it up to the computer, run it and it scan/record everything and send to them to analyze. They did that this afternoon and waiting for Italy to review and sign off on it. They also fixed the alcantara and the car may be ready to pick up tomorrow.

I’ll update once I get the car back and post some details from the repair receipts.

  24. Who cares about the battery.

I am just happy you got your alcantara fixed!

Loose alcantara basically makes the car useless, especially near the arm rest.

They were nice enough to point out that the passenger door was also messed up and they fixed that too. Never even noticed and don’t think I’ve ever had a passenger in the car to tell me. lol.

I do think it feels a little faster with the alcantara fixed.
