Should I remove these stripes before sale?

  1. Yes, you'll attract more buyers without the stripes

  2. No, let the next owner decide

Last year I decided to enjoy adding some "pop" by putting Scuderia stripes on my Silverstone 458S. This year I plan to sell the car at some point. I assume most buyers would prefer the car without stripes, so I'm considering having them removed. Some of the segments are on top of PPF, and the stripes have ceramic coating on top of that, so it is some trouble and expense to remove them.

Perhaps the future new owner would enjoy the stripes, so should I leave that decision for them? Should I leave them but say in the ad that I'll have them removed before delivery if that is buyer's wish?

The most important question I have for you is not if you "like" the stripes or not, but if you think any buyers would be deterred from buying the car because of the stripes? I don't want to scare off any one that might subconsciously think "no thanks, what kind of nutty seller would put Scud stripes on his 458?" lol.

Keep - gives the new buyer options.

If they like them - WIN!

If they don't like them - offer to have removed at your expense - which is no more money than what you're proposing to do now, but you might NOT have to do if they fall into the first category.

Definitely just leave them on. Anyone buying the car will know they can just remove them. Simple job, regardless of being ceramic coated. That’s the fun of buying a new car, they can customize however they want and if removing the stripe is their idea of making it their own, they’ll just do it. Just mention in the ads that they aren’t painted on or permanent and can be removed is all.. don’t put any expense or labor into it. Let it be the end buyer’s decision.

Id give the buyer the option. If they don't want then offer to remove. If the car is desired by the prospective buyer, they have the option to suit their taste. I think the front hood looks nice but the top and rear might be better removed. Buyer's choice.

It suits your style, but likely not a potential buyer - take them off.

I'd give buyer the option. FWIW, I usually do not like mods like this but for some reason I really dig these stripes and the overall spec.

I'd leave them and make it clear up front in your sale post the these are only stickers and come right off. That way the buyer can decide. However I think for people browsing photos on line that they will look and prefer no stickers. So your call.

As someone shopping for a 458 all things being equal the stripes are a deterrent....

Strangely, psychologically, these type of things HELP sell the car for specialty cars like these. Someone seeing the car and thinking, ‘if I buy that, I’d remove the stripe and it would look so nice’ and that often makes them imagine owning it and doing it in their driveway as first order of personalization.. its called mental ownership…. And that silly little mindset will help it sell better than if it was already exactly the way they want it…. Leave the stripe as I said before. Mention it’s not painted and not under the PPF and you’ll be good.

Thanks for the reply........yours is the mindset I'm seeking to understand. So do you think that even if my ad said they're just decals and I'll remove if buyer prefers, you'd still be deterred from considering the car? If so, that is puzzling to me, but I'm here trying to get a sense if that view is rare or common.

VERY rare mindset. If they’re removable, they’re removable in about 10 minutes! 20 if you want to clean the area after removal. WTF? Leave the stripes… jeesh

Well again all things being equal, i would prefer to not have the stripes. If it's the spec I want at the price I want then no stripes are not going to stop me buying it especially if you tell me that you'll take the "risk", it any, of taking them off for me. But most people just scrolling through a gallery they might just keep going when they see the stripes...

But there also the aspect that someone might like the stripes, I'm talking about me specifically I can't speak for anyone else. Sorry I know that makes it convoluted but I don't think there is a definitive answer here.

There is nothing wrong with customizing a car to your liking. Come resale time some would like it and some would not which then limits your pool of potential buyers. Even though this is easy to remove and not a big deal if I were looking for car online if I don’t like the appearance I don’t read anything else about the car I just move on. I always feel returning car to stock is the best for resale. I will remove this and thus eliminate any stories.

Geez, are we in elementary school? Leave them on...if a buyer is so short sighted to not see an easy removal.....he'll probably screw up the sale somewhere else anyway. It's just a freaking car! Stripes or no.....I like them A Lot actually!!! Cheers

Thanks for the feedback, it has been helpful. The poll went 12-6 for remove, while the comments tallied 9-5 for leave them. While my personal view aligns with the "just leave 'em, fer chrissakes" side, the discussion confirms that there may well be buyers that would scroll past an ad with the unexpected oddity of stripes. No one is going to scroll past a car because it doesn't have stripes, so I suspect cold logic favors removal.

Another angle is that I am going to start getting the word out in my many car-guy-groups here in Denver that the car is on "pre-sale" before I do this sort of detailed-prep for advertised sale, so there will be at least some potential buyers that have the option to tell me they like the stripes. (or maybe even someone seeing this thread).

Follow - up note..... see that simple last message from Voda? That led to a new car-guys friendship and sale of the car, without advertising or even talking to anyone else! Thanks F Chat, and Congrats Voda! And btw he opted for the all-original look, w silver wheels back on and stripes off. Here's how she looks as of shipping day.

No need for a poll. Unfortunately for the stripe lovers, the seller must remove them to prove there is no fading (or any damage). Fading means the area not under the stripe is different then under the stripe due to the climate/sun/temp etc….

For me, the vinyl stripe on top of the ppf is not attractive. And if you go under the ppf, then you are stuck unless you redo the ppf.
