Larini 2.7 Y pipe finally arrived but have some concerns

I purchased the Larini bypass pipe for the 2.7 variation.

I suffered with the 6 months delays whilst dealing with Larini along with some shockingly poor customer service that resulted in other exhaust parts that I ordered being cancelled.

I have a few questions. Should both the flanges on the Y section be the same? You can see from the pics they look different, ones concave and ones convex.

If I put the V section of the y pipe on a straight line surface, the pipes are both different angles. Is this going to be a fitment issue?

Jagged and sharp edges, quality control seems non existent….

I’ve queried it with Larini, their production team is looking into it…..

a bit disappointing after the 6 month wait, the finish isn’t up to the competition. Maybe I got unlucky, but surely the flanges on both sides should be the same.

 

it was the heat shielding of the Larini otherwise it would have been the Kreissieg.

 

Super super super easy to DIY heat shield a 2.7 y-pipe. DEI Engineering heat blanket with some stainless steel zip ties. Or just standard header wrap.

 

Thanks for the replies. Just trying to return this but Larini are adamant there’s nothing wrong with the shape and the convex/concave figment makes no difference. As it’s a special order piece it’s non refundable.

There must be a shortage of material or something. They’re welding things on that don’t need to be welded on (more work).

Thermo-met does some of their inconel shielding. I’d buy a Kriessieg Y-pipe and send it off to them.

There is an insulating core between the pipe held in place firmly by the shielding to minimize dissipation. I leave it up to professionals to do stuff like this as I wouldn’t have the patience for it. Thermo-met is the go-to place and also in the UK.

 

No I gave up on waiting for the muffler after the 1st one apparently was lost in transit….

There’s a 355 owner in the UK that had a Tubi exhaust, sold that and bought the GT2 muffler from Larini. He then sold that for a bargain price and bought a Capristo level 2 and says it’s the best thing he’s done.

He rates the Larini better than the Tubi but not as got as the Capristo.

I’ll be having a toss up between the Capristo or the Kriessieg muffler.

Unfortunately Larini feels a one man band that’s overworked! My Y pipe doesn’t even have any Larini markings at all and the welding isn’t up to the standards you’d expect. The bits they’ve welded on at the end don’t sit at the right angle. It will definitely take some tinkering around to get it to fit; not what was expected after the wait or the sales pitch they give about being better than the others.

 

GT2 muffler with inconel shielding? How recent was this? On a 5.2 or a 2.7? There are older Larini mufflers that aren’t the same as the new stuff.


Since you are in the UK, perhaps best to visit shop and find out what’s going on?

 

I sold both my Capristo 3 and Capristo 2 for my 2.7 fwiw. Too much high range sound, not enough in low and mid where most driving is done. Tubi Evo might be a better choice for a 2.7.

 

They don’t have a shop, they have an office address and apparently a workshop off site somewhere.

The muffler was the inconel sheilded one, 18 months old. He sold it for $500 and by the time I got around to seeing the listing it was sold. We had a good chat after that and he’s the one that recommended not getting one. Everyone’s opinion is subjective though. He has a 1995 2.7 as well. He says the top end sound isn’t near the capristo shriek.

 

Yes I agree with you. The Kriessieg would be an option but not sure what the bottom end sound would be like.

Did you ever get round to trying the Larini muffler?

 

Not many mufflers will match the Capristo shriek top end besides Ito Racing. Larini admitted that to me. My concern was better low/mid range and perhaps 80% of Capristo top end and more natural progression/transition. What did he say about the low/mid in the Larini? What’s his setup? What manifolds, y-pipe, cats?


Fwiw, I waited a year for all my Larini parts, but that was during Covid and I was the first buyer for their new 355 offerings.

Y pipe he never changed. The Tubi he says was drony. The Larini ‘ bought nothing to the table’. Top end not like a capristo but booms not as bad as a Tubi and the top end was better than a Tubi.

sounds like a balance of the capristo and tubi, but for him the Capristo 2 was the best.

I'm with you on this, I want more low down drama but a top end to match. Have you heard the Kriessieg in the flesh?

 

Never tried the muffler because it came with a slight dent on the tip and I haven’t found a shop able to fix it. Ive been contemplating selling it as is and ordering a new one hoping it arrives undamaged, but it doesn’t sound like that’s a good idea either as who knows when I’ll get another replacement and what the quality might be. Quality on mine looks great absent the dent.


Alot of hassle and uncertainty for a muffler which I have no idea how it sounds, so yea, I’m sort of in a stalemate position with this Larini muffler. In the meantime, I’ve been satisfied with my X-OST muffler.

 

did Larini refund you for the muffler?

have you thought about changing the tips? Or bolting it on time what it sounds like?

I’m trying to find out when the guy that purchased the used larini muffler will have it fitted so I can go have a listen.

The Larini muffler is almost identical in size and shape to the older Nouvarli ones. I have one of those here that I bought cheap, just read how the Capristo was so much better and never bothered with it.

I’m in the process of buying a the fiorano shocks, roll bars and steering rack. When I’ve got those I’ll start the major service on this and put on the exhaust bits .

 

I have not. There are many versions/configurations of Kriessieg.

What manifolds did he have? That plays a part.


Keep in mind I have Larini manifolds, straight pipes, Y-pipe, and muffler… basically the whole system so I was hoping it would all work together nicely.


$500 is stupid low though. Standard Tubis sell for $1500 and that is without inconel shielding. He did say it’s at least better than a standard Tubi. Got a link to the ad?



Considering I waited a year for mine (and it doesn’t look like much has changed with Larini) and I bought when exchange rates were better, I would only consider selling mine to someone local who either doesn’t mind the dent or thinks he can get it fixed for the same price I paid landed. That way I can at least hear it and if it is to my liking, I will re-order (at a higher price), wait a year if need be, and take my chances on current Larini quality.

Larini did not offer me a discount, but would offer me one on a re-purchase, which is moot now as exchange rates have gotten worse for me.

At the moment, my X-OST is 2-3x better than Capristo on the low/mid range, but maybe only half as good on the top range. What I really need is a higher pitched X-OST . I was hoping Larini manifolds + y-pipe would give me just enough top end to satisfy my needs.



There is a local gentleman who purchased a yellow 2.7 on BaT late 2023. He was told the car came with Tubi manifolds and Tubi muffler. Upon my closer inspection, it came with uber rare SECA manifolds (still 4-2-1) and the same uber rare X-OST muffler I have.


He bought a brand new Capristo 3 and sold it within the first 100 miles (On BaT). He liked the X-OST setup better although we both admit it’s nowhere near Capristo pitch. I told him, “told ya.” I think his car is still finishing up paint work at the body shop, but looks like the X-OST is going back on with Larini 200 cells and an MS Racing Y-pipe. We’ll see.

if you definitely want another Larini muffler they are offering me one at a discounted price. I can ship that to you if it helps you out.

I would have expected them to compensate you for transit damage at the minimum.

Judging by this maybe the Larini does fit the bill, low end, not as much as the Tubi but better than the capristo, and more top in than the Tubi.

Exhaust sounds are so subjective, what sounds good to one person may not to another.

I run AMG V8s and an Aston V12s so I like a beefy exhaust note. I do get disappointed every time I start the 355 and hear that idling note. More so my bypass valve is seized shut so I really hear nothing…..

 

At this stage, I’m in no rush to order one unless I sold it, heard it, and loved it… or I try it on myself at some point in time and if I like it, i’ll re-order another and just wait it out. I’m just assuming I’d take a hit on price once it’s used.

 

Here’s my Larini GT2 Muffler showing a slight dent on only one of the tips (driver’s side). If anyone is local enough and interested, I’d be willing to sell it no less than what I paid landed (with invoice proof.) I paid duties on it as well. Prefer to sell to someone with a 2.7 car. I am also willing to sell the Larini Y-pipe and straight pipes to go with it if that helps. It’s all brand new.

If you don’t mind the dent, great (I do. I’m picky.) If you think you can get the dent fixed, great. I showed it to my fabricator and he didn’t think he could do anything about it. Just being honest. Just know if you do order a new one from Larini, chances are prices will be higher due exchange rates, you’ll probably end up waiting 6-12 months, and if lost or damaged, good luck lol. Obviously, there’s still risks dealing directly with Larini. One is better off going with me .

If it weren’t for the dent, it’d probably be on my car right now since some are wondering why I haven’t cared to put it on. I know myself enough that if it bothers me, there’s no point in putting it on only later to have it removed and replaced. That’s just my line of thinking.

I’m still very curious what it sounds like. I’m not selling it because I think it’ll sound like ass. I really don’t know how it sounds, but description so far matches what Larini had already told me and what I was looking for.

I’m curious if the guy who sold his was sporting one the abundant 4-1 manifolds which mess up the sound on a 355 and Capristo at least helped give some F1 pitch vs no pitch.


Bypass functioning 100% matters as well.
