I'm sure there are stipulations to that renewal.

Perez needs to perform on a massive scale or he's going to lose his seat.

I thought people were blaming Magnussen for the Monaco crash.
Now they change the script to fit with Montreal ??
At Montreal; Perez apparently followed team instruction to bring his damaged car to the pit to avoid a Red Flag that would have reduced Max' track advantage to zero.
Although Perez was a team player, he is supposed to be blamed for that too ?

I didn't blame Perez for the Monaco crash. Unfortunately, the bill to RedBull is on Perez's ledger.

Well, irregardless of team orders, he wrecked the car in Montreal all by himself. So yeah, he doesn't wreck there's no risk of a penalty, is there?

Here's the exchange between Leclerc and Bryan throughout the race:

Bryan to Charles: "We have issues with the engine but we keep pushing."

Charles to Bryan: "How much a I losing down the straights."

Bryan to Charles: "Quite a bit.....keep pushing"

Charles to Bryan: "I don't want this answer. When I'm asking please tell me!"

Bryan to Charles: "Half a second."

Charles to Bryan: "Impossible to overtake with this issue to be honest."

    Bryan to Charles: "I know."

Bryan tells him that the rain will come.

    Charles: "It‘s close to dry."

Charles: "It‘s ****ing frustrating. It feels way more than half a second."

Bryan: "Yes it increased, we more of a second now."

Bryan to Charles: "We think we fixed the issue!!!"

Charles: "Yeah we got the rain."

Bryan: "Keep it on track. Just two laps with rain."

Charles: "Should we box again? It‘s raining too much."

    Bryan: "It‘s two laps."

Charles: "For f*** sakes, it‘s raining too much. I am losing like 10s."

    Charles: "Think about engine mileage."

    Bryan: "Yes we know."

Charles: "What is target? I mean what are we trying to do?"

Bryan: "We just wait for the situation to settle and then we decide."

Charles: "We are completely fine engine wise?"

    Bryan: "Yes we are."

He didn‘t copy and then Bryan asked him: "Do you copy?"

Charles: "Yeah yeah, that is a good idea."

    Charles retires the car.

Sounds like a rookie team.... They really acted like a bunch of amateurs, everything that they could do wrong, they did do wrong.
Vasseur needs to get a hold on his troops. This was shameful.

I was at the race all weekend. Paddock Club as guests of Williams. Didn’t bother with driving in - just got an Uber in and the metro out. Worked a treat.

If you are a true F1 fan, this is a great race to be at. We had amazing views, met loads of drivers and had the chance to visit the team garage 3 times including during Quali and for the start of the race. Bucket list stuff.

As for the racing - Verstappen showed his class again, dragging the third fastest car to the win. Another impressive performance from McLaren - they could be contenders for WCC this year as they have two excellent drivers (be RBs one) and good strategy (vs Ferraris ongoing clown show). Mercedes finally showed up with a decent package but they are too far back already.

Perez is the new Stroll. He has absolutely no reason to put any effort in now that he has banked a 2 year deal. Total robbery.

Defintely a weekend to forget for Ferrari. But at least Charles was happy on Saturday before quali…

I still have plenty of faith in Vasseur. This was a clown show (and quite a big one), but clown shows are few and far in between under him. I don't count any of his first races, where he was stuck with Ringling, Barnum, and Bailey.

Sorry if I missed anyone else that's has history here.

Okay guys, I'm bringing this to you guys because of your knowledge.

What RedBull did to Perez, to bring the car in to NOT cause a safety car after Perez damaging his rear wing, because a SC would ruin Max's lead and in effect take the grid penalty and fine for Perez.

How is this situation not different from Singapore2008 where Piquet's crash caused a SC to let Alonso win. Is it because in Singapore2008, it was a pre-planned situation with Alonso pitting and thereby Alonso winning?

All we're talking about is just a few degrees of separation no?

    Elaborate please.

So let's hope that 16 years from now, the losing (to Max Verstappen) runner up in this year's championship will not sue the FIA to get compensation for the lost title... it would be a pity to see him (Norris or Leclerc ? ) reach such a low :D

Yes. There may be a difference in degree, in terms of drama, but no difference in intention or possible consequences….those being the risk of possible injury to drivers and course workers. One being planned and the other simply taking advantage of a situation shouldn’t make any difference.

The counter-argument is that, as far as I know there was no black flag for Perez, and even if there were would he have been required to stop on track? Do the rules address that?

Yeah, no black flag under Perez to stop on track. No the rules don't address that in Perez's situation.

Black flag is to disqualify a driver, in this case I would have thought the appropriate would have been black and orange for "mechanical problem" on the car (as if he could not see it  ) But either way, the flag instructs to go back to the pit (exactly what he did), not to stop immediately. If there is a rule forbidding to continue to drive a car, it's not covered by a flag AFAIK.

One was pre-planned conspiracy. One was incompetent driving. I doubt very much that RB expected Perez to dump all over the track whilst driving in. It’s pretty standard that if the car is operational, a driver will try and make it back to the pits. Nothing to see here IMHO

Yes you can, even if you're flailing carbon fiber pieces throughout the track. Your more than likely looking at a penalty and possible fine.

It´s indeed "the same", but there are more than just a few degrees of separation. One crashed deliberately, the other was an accident. One caused a safety car, the other avoided it. One was leading the race, the other would not have got to the lead without that safety car.

Still, I think Red Bull deserved a harsher penalty. Three grid positions for the pariah of the team and a fine that is less than what Christian Horner spends in coke in a night is not enough to disuade anybody else of doing the same.

P.S: just because I´ve been around here for a while doesn´t mean that I know what I´m talking about.

Yes, tenure is not necessarily a good predictor. Some days I think I was smarter before I got here…and that has nothing to do with the forum! :)
